Recommended Posts

Hi,

disabling the HUD, where is the fuel indicator for the Tiger I?

Was there a indicator for the driver?

Does anybody know it?

I don't think there was one. Check  the link below, very in depth explanation of the operation and  start up procedure of the Tiger 1.

There is no fuel indicator. You have enough fuel for about 85 km off road (3,5 hours) full power. Or 140 km on roads (about 5 hours)

Thanks GS86,

thats good to know.

If i am correct, there is a KM indicator (for driven distances), so if this is working i can approximately calculate fuel consumption.

No fuel indicator tells you a lot about military priorities, as opposed to civilian.

Any military vehicle driver will take each and every opportunity to top up his fuel tank, not run it, like civilians,  with little regard to when or where the next petrol station might be.

Theres also the rather naive delusion that the tank won't have broken down long before it runs out of gas.   The hardest working people in a tank regiment are the mechanics, and the driver ( read, mechanics assistant). That Last little gem is experience rather than from reading a book. :salute:

Pity Johan Gunther Lutjens didn't heed that advice with the Bismarck. Had the chance to refuel to the hilt and passed on the offer only to cop a shell through the bow tank limiting the speed at which he could travel because of  fuel loss, allowing the Royal Navy to intercept before he could reach air cover and the rest is history.

Fuel gauge is usually a custom made stick with marks cut in to indicate levels, on aircraft too. Crude but reliable ?

I'd be surprised if a gauged stick wasn't actually part of a tanks stores.  Mind you, it probably got lost, or nicked (I mean borrowed) within a short period of time with a rough and ready replacement having to make do.

Fuel gauges, in armoured vehicles, are notoriously unreliable and any driver who might try to use it as an excuse for no fuel will quickly, and possibly painfully, be shown the error of his ways.

Small failure from me range on roads is 140 km about 4,5-5 hours. Still no real Problem for gameplay since most missions are not that long. So only a small risk of runing out off fuel.

Yeah but especially in longer MP campaigns we would need some logistics capacity to replenish fuel and ammo.

MP campaigns longer than 4.5 hours?

It is not like with fighters, where it makes some sense to start with just 50% fuel, to have higher maneuverability. You can start tanks with 100% fuel, I don't think you wil notice a big loss of maneuverability.

Wonder if fuel leaks are implemented at the moment...

The H1 definitely didn't have a fuel gauge in the interior from the factory, but I have seen interior modifications made in the field.  Also, I have seen exterior float caps giving basic idea of fuel level, but again, I can't say if those float caps were factory or field mods.
