Ramdisk - any advantage?

My computer techie installed ROG RAMdisk  2 on my new rig and showed me how to set it up, all fairly simple. 

 

I am just wondering if it will actually lead to any performance improvement in BoS, (or RoF) or not worth bothering with.

 

Anyone used ramdisk? Any point to it?

Do you have the hardware or the software drive? InvadeIT in Puhket have the hardware one

 I see that you have 32 Gb of fast memory so I guess it’s the software one.

 

You created a itch to try this software so I ordered 8Gb more from InvadeIT and intend to make a 8 Gb RAMdisk exclusively for BoS and CloD. I seriously doubt that I will see any difference since, like you, I have a fast SSD drive already. I just can’t sleep well until I know!

I have ROGRAMdisk 2.00.03 which is I understand a software installation.

 

Not terribly tech aware myself, but the chap who puts together my PCs said it might help smooth out some applications depending on how they handle memory. I think BoS/RoF load the whole mission into memory as it starts anyway.

 

I have used RoF in the RAMdisk for a few days to see if it got rid of the occasional "missing frame" or microstutter that I think is associated with the spawning of a new AI flight somewhere. I did still get it very occasionally: but then again it was rare playing from SSD anyway, so I am unsure if there is really any difference.

 

Just one aside: because the skins folders are so big in RoF I ended up with a massive requirement: BoS folder only about 3.2 GB at the moment, but beware skins bloat. Should not get anywhere near RoF levels for quite a while though.

 

At least fiddling around with all of this helps take the mind off the horrible politics!

Tinkering with new tech is what life is all about. Eight Gb is on its way so I will find out at the end of the week how it works.
