Agilepig Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 Maybe some other players already said about this, but I couldn't found it. So I open this thread. AFAIK, I will get every games of IL-2 GB series when I download it, even I didn't bought. Every game was downloaded but just locked. So I bought only BOS and BOB but actually BOM, BOK was also installed in my SSD, just I can't use these, cuz I didn't bought. Ok. Here is problem. Size of my SSD is only 500gb and I have other games have to install at SSD, so I don't want to spend my SSD for WW1 planes. I don't have interesting about WW1 air combat. I will never buy these WW1 planes, even they 90% sale for it. If 777 add whole ROF planes to IL-2 GB, it will be spend huge space! I can't handle this huge mass! Tank Crew is OK for me. This is WW2 game since 777 start making it. It is quite matching with preexisted IL-2 GB series product. Actually, it is quite interesting try, even I have no intention of buying it now. However, there is some players who have small space in there PC, it will become a burden. 1 3
1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 (edited) I'm sure one day there will be ww1 guy which would hate to have ww2 content on his HD. Just LOL! You can't please everyone, that type of game distribution is efective for dev team and all content ww2 or ww1 is Great Battles series so you have to live with it. Plus common mp environment. Maybe someday it will change but i doubt... Edited July 23, 2018 by 307_Tomcat
Soilworker Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 I'm no expert but I'd be very surprised if you can do anything about it other than space management or buying another SSD or HDD. Those assets would be needed if you happen to play online on a server where people can fly FC and BoX planes together (I'm not saying you would, just you potentially could.) But by the time the devs add all the planes from RoF you'll likely have a new PC and SSDs will be a lot cheaper, it's a long process and they're currently only releasing 10 planes for Flying Circus.
Herne Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 Even though you will likely never use them, there are reasons why they should be included on your HDD. Especially for those who enjoy MP, and may find themselves on a dogfight server, that includes fighters from all era's.

Actually, there is no problem when you play MP without those whole files, if 777 care about that. For example, when you install DCS on your PC you don't need to install whole modules you don't bought, but you have no problem when you play MP, except Map module. Their marketing strategy is sucks, so they sell the theater itself. However, if you have theater module or playing it on basic Caucasus theater, there is no problem even you don't download module you don't bought.

I'm still grateful not to have to wait for downloaded content whenever I purchase stuff though.
dburne Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 The IL-2 footprint by comparison is way smaller than the DCS footprint. I only have a 256 GB gaming SSD, and have both along with Elite Dangerous on it. Mine is staring to get tight as well, if I were not planning on a new PC build here before end of this year I would go ahead and get a larger SSD. I will do so when I do the new build. As time marches on and the size of the games continue to grow, inevitably the size of our drives need to grow also.

Imagine what would happen if you would not have ww1 content on Hdd and someone would use ww1 aeroplane on Berloga or Berloga will rotate map and choose ww1 map together with ww2 and ww1 planes? Yeap. As I said, there is no problem when happened the situation you said in DCS. It mean, if 777 have the will to solve this problem, they can do this.
CanadaOne Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 I just bought a 500GB Crucial SSD just for DCS (130GB install) because my 250GB Samsung main drive with the OS was full to the last drop with DCS on it. Even if I drop BOX alongside it, that SSD will have lots of room for at least a few years. 1
SYN_Luftwaffles Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 Dude, I've got a 500 gb SSD with IL2, Skyrim, FO4, Graviteam's games, RS2, and a bazillion pictures and it uses only half my drive. What is on your drive??? lol Seriously, is it music or video? If so, move that stuff to your HDD and save the SSD for the important stuff
Livai Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 17GB is nothing where other games use up to 100GB. You cry about space? -The more games you play the more space you need. Even if some not bought Tank Crew or Flying Circus they can still enjoy these planes tanks as AI-controlled.
=TBAS=Sshadow14 Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 SSD's are a luxury not needed. I have about 1TB free space on my 2TB Gaming and media HDD. Often even with Aussie internet (mine if 4G 5Mbit) and 7200rpm HDD *Im often first to load into maps when server flips*(mostly because i run win7 im sure) Also as other have said just because you dont own them does not mean you dont use the content. If you only own basic Bos pack you can still fly on ALL Maps released in Multiplayer servers. If you only own Basic Bos pack you can still fly as gunner for ALL Bombers in the game, Also you need the content to See AI planes using that content.
AndyJWest Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 I suspect the developers have enough on their hands already, and would prefer not to engage in major structural modifications to the application. Especially ones that would inevitably add complexity to testing and deployment. Using DCS as an example doesn't seem to me particularly helpful either: there has been a long history in that sim of things which previously worked getting 'broken' with new releases, and I suspect at least part of that is down to its modular structure. If it was my decision (it isn't) I'd go for keeping things simple over saving a few GB of storage every time.

Clearly some games (include il-2 gb) show better performance when it installed SSD. I am living in asia and most game servers were in russia. So I already painful to covering my [Edited] ping and adding low fps or grided dots for it? Oh god... Edited July 26, 2018 by Bearcat Language
