Hello everybody !

I heard that many people would like to see the difference between ROF and FC, so I did a comparative video !

I compare, the cockpit of the SPAD, the engine stratup, the takeoff, the sound of guns and sound of the impacts of the plane, then the damage model.

Hope you guys like it :)

See you in the air :)

I'm glad I could help you answer your question ! ??

Note that Rise of Flight came out in 2009 !

This is very enlightening. The clear step ahead in terms of realism is apparent, I hadn't seen it on Jason's pics, but here it stands out. I don't see a similarly dramatic improvement on damage model yet. And there are the sound issues, of course. Too much metal on those canvas wings.

Oh boy these are going to be some exciting months.

Yeah, I agree

Something that i forgot to mention is that both games are running on ultra settings with everything maxed out.

This is what it is, ROF planes ported to il-2 with some visual improvements but still all of the il-2 sounds and effects.

Excellent. Merci pour ce comparatif Taog. Les pilotes sont encore figés dans cette première version, mais ils devraient être modélisés et animés à un niveau similaire que pour les avions j'espère dans la version définitive..

Think you said it right, minimal difference when looking pure to the planes graphics, still that fuzzy fuselage when looking from the cockpit to the rear as an sample.  ?

After 10 years later, sorry to write this down, I was expecting also a bit more improvement on the planes graphics. It seems that this Russia third party studio did do an very lazy plane swapping job.  ?

Taog thanks for making this Video.

Dutch2,

This for me is price-less as I was just about to offer you a free FC copy, however, on checking your general posts and as noted by DD_Arthur in a previous post, you are happy to knock the game, yet you are always there in the queue with your hand out asking for something. I'm all for players having their views, but come on, it would be nice to see you actually buying something and reviewing it for the greater good, rather than continually knocking it and not appearing to support the team, yet happy for the welfare free game hand-outs, as mentioned by DD_Arthur.

Therefore, I'm guessing we will not see you putting your name down for a free a copy of FC?

Regards

@Haza you are late, just like for ROF, OFF3 & WoFF-UE and even Clod,  I was one of the first FC buyers [and not because the extra ROF discount],  guess now you have to give your free FC1 to another member.    PM Haza for more details  about his gift.  ?

Further I'm not going to pull FC down, but also not going into a blind FC1 hallelujah. Only I was after 10y RoF, expecting more visible improvements on the plane, so yes, and again sorry to write this down thats hurting you, at that point this is to me an disappointment.

But all it is great to see I'm being monitored by some angry members.    ?

Oh Dutch2,

LM**O, you say I'm late, yet I can not see your badges for BOS, BOM, BOK and BoBp so perhaps you are that far behind you think that you are ahead. Unfortunately I do not do the give aways in open forum usually, as I find that there are all-sorts of players who have no real interest in the game that all come out of the wood-work for free hand-outs, however, I will continue to give away stuff to players that I believe should have it, as I initially thought I would give to you.

regards

In my opinion virtually no difference.

I am surprised that the team have decided to develop ROF as in my opinion it was always one of the best flight sims out there and needed no further enhancement.

I am sure some will view it as another way to create revenue and although I appreciate the developers need to earn money, and the fact they have offered a small discount to us original subscribers of ROF I would have thought it would have been better to create another theater of campaign such as North Africa or Burma.

For the moment I wont be changing to FC and I dearly hope that ROF will still be available in the coming months?

However, really looking forward to 'Bodenplatte' and who knows perhaps we can then create 'Normandy'!!

More than likely it's a way of adding in legacy game worlds to the BoX game world so that there's a common code base. If you think about it, complete outsiders to BoX will have a massive array of aircraft (and tanks) to pick, knowing full well that they can add to their collection without jumping between different games, control systems etc. It's a clever marketing move and currently FC likely has place holder sounds and so on (better than no sounds) until authentic ones are added.

Wow Haza, ZIDSL**,  sure you would!

You are late because, not because your late december 2015 registration, no you are late because I already have FC1, so nothing to give to me, so yes good idea, only better to spent this to other WW1 fans, like a Pat Wilson as an sample. Meantime I will wait in patience for the prove of your gift because I think a real gentleman like you are, always keeps his words.

I do have FC, BoSprem, BoMprem, Ju52 and if a specific BoBpl plane is released then I will go for the BoBpl preorder and that is also because a family background I do have to an sertain WW2 pilot. I’m not that rich so I hope you don’t mind if something will pass to me in the meantime.

I hope I’m now clear on this mistake that becomes very personal, so we can stop this discussion, or leave it to the PM section.

Further on, to FC,

I have noticed that the instruments and some plane details are  improved, could be because VR needs them. I must admit I see more and more small details of improvement vs RoF.

Still in the middle of the Nvidia setting so who knows, I can reach more.

Keep in mind this is still very early access and undergoing further development. Also, as far as the differences are concerned, those are the main features of FC:

- Dx 11 support

- full integration of RoF content in IL Great Battles series

- new 4k textures for exteriour & interiour

- upgraded 3d models

- new pilot models (not animated yet)

- tweaked FMs (not rebuild)

- tweaked DMs (no rebuild)

- tweaked sounds

The only thing I preferr from RoF in comparison is the reflections of the cockpit interiour. It really gives a great impression of materials (iron, brass, wood) while things generally look more the same in FC.

" upgraded 3d models "

nothing visible about that or a very minimal change , and the further development will not change that .

Dutch2,

FYI and as an update,  I have gifted FC to an individual, however I would not want to either embarrass nor offend them by publizing their name in the open forum. Needless to say, as previously discussed, I usually  gift privatley, however, be assured that FC will now have another player.

I think the biggest problem is that the normal maps are the same as RoF and the specular map is pretty much a straight port too. The normal maps in RoF are too exaggerated and look bad when bright light is shining on it and the specular maps arent really taking advantage of the gloss look that can be done with this game. Editing the specular maps helps a lot imho.

There are some differences with the 3d models but not a whole lot, and unfortunately stuff like the tail on the Dr1 hasnt been changed.

yes, visually at this point, the differences between say the SPAD XIII cockpit in ROF and BOX are incremental, they look basically the same.

However, as you spend time with them, you will notice a difference. IMHO, the ROF cockpit is fuzzier and a bit more low res. The BOX cockpit is sharper and a big plus for me, the instruments are easier to read at a glance. I always found many of the instruments in ROF with small letters hard to read unless I max zoomed on them.

There seem to be things that ROF still does better than FC in your video.  That being said however, if I am not mistaken, FC has concentrated mainly on bringing over the a/c with higher resolution and creating their FM.  Other enhancements, e.g. sound, graphic effects, map, career, etc., will follow.  In the end I'm sure that FC will be a much better product.

I am impressed with the wing damaging of il 2 bos. In the rise of flight the wings looked more scripted. There are a lot things under the hood so people who flew rise of flight can give the best opinion. Nevertheless the VR support is the true innovation.
Regarding the sound I have always written on the forums, that it is about time to do something more innovative with the sound. Regarding the graphics we are at the very limit what the current technology allows, but regarding the sound all flight sims are frozen in time.
This video just shows how good and innovative for its time rise of flight has been.

Nice.....

I haven't got FC yet, but i'm thinking about it.

Exhaust smoke, i think we could do with that in Bos, BoM etc.

Also l love the way the screen dims when looking at the sun in RoF, instead of blinding you as it does in BoS, something they also need to bring over!

I wonder how many people will resist the change from RoF to BoS....

IF I MAY ADD ONE FINAL COMMENT.

I GUESS WHAT i WAS INITIALLY TRYING TO SAY WAS ......IF THE GAMES NOT BROKEN DON'T TRY TO FIX IT!!

THAT'S WHY I WAS SO SURPRISED WHEN FC CAME OUT. WE REALLY WERE NOT LOOKING FOR ANOTHER WWI FLIGHT SIM. ROF HAS IT ALL.

THE DEVELOPMENT TEAM HAVE DONE AN AMAZING JOB IN SUCH A SHORT SPACE OF TIME FROM BOS, BOM, BOK AND NOW BOBP AS WELL AS TANK CREWS AND CAREER MODE.  IF YOU REALLY WANT TO IMPRESS US DO SOME SHADOW BOXING WITH TEAM FUSION AND FIX CLOD AND THEN GO ON TO NORTH AFRICA, EUROPE AND BURMA!! I'M SURE EVERYONE WHO READS THIS WOULD THEN SIT UP AND TAKE NOTICE AND GET THEIR CREDIT CARDS OUT BY THE THOUSANDS!!

Planesy - no VR in ROF and playing ROF on a big screen makes it look very very dated.

FC in VR is heavenly even with lower res and harder spotting and all that.  I'll play FC but not ROF - speaking personally this is a good reason to go down this route.

I  supported BOx because I was promised by Producer that WW1 genre development would be continued eventually.
