BrokenBiscuit Posted July 20, 2018 Posted July 20, 2018 My initial impression of the Spad was that it looked beautiful; the shadows were gorgeous, the textures sharp and the cockpit instantly familiar after all my time in RoF. In flight felt more settled in hard turns and more stable in firing, only rarely did it buck in my hands or slide away from its flight path. Fighting in it is a joy; I was more confident to really lean hard into a turn to get guns on target and when I did, I could hold it there easily allowing me to shower the hostile in lead. It just feels that more satisfying than I remember in RoF, where prolonged combat cramped my hand from constant corrections. That said, I did have a different joystick back then and haven't tested the new one in RoF. I loved having lots of mods for the plane just there waiting for me. The Aldis sight being my favourite. I can't see the point of the "balloon guns" as they seem to be the same as the standard with less ammunition? Landing it is of course fairly easy to do, as with power off the Spad loses speed quickly but not so much it falls out of the sky the moment you pull back on the throttle. The Dr.I looks just as good as the Spad, although in terms of preference, the Spad is my favourite as I'm a sucker for planes with straight lines and a stubby appearance (such as the wildcat). Flying it was how I mostly remember from RoF; lots of forward pressure to keep it leaping into the sky, excellent at turning and possessed such lift you could do ridiculous tricks with it to swiftly turn back on the enemy. I remember though that hard turns were an effort in RoF, more so to the right if I recall because of the rotary engine. Turning in the direction of the engine spin still allows a better response, but turning the other way no longer seems to feel like I'm taking a risky chance; fighting isn't as tiring. On the whole like the Spad, it seems more settled, though still having its quirks. Landing it wasn't overly hard, but with its three sets of wings, it was very reluctant to descend and floated down a good measure of the runway before the wheels touched the ground. All in all, this has been a great first impression for me, plus I get to fight a 109 E in a Spad and it's as silly and amazing and fun as I thought it'd be. One thing though. Has anyone noticed that when you kill the pilot in either the Spad or the DR.I that he disappears? He utterly vanishes from the cockpit! I really hope the other planes come soon. I can't remember what was on the list, but I hope my Neuport 17 is on it. I miss my favourite plane. 1
OrLoK Posted July 20, 2018 Posted July 20, 2018 FC is still early days yet, expect bugs to come and go as development moves on. Im amazed they managed to get the planes to be compatible. Im looking forward to the coming aircraft/scenery

Unfortunately the Nieuport 17 didn't make it into FC Vol. 1, which is a bummer to me as well. Hopefully it will show up in Vol. 2, if we get one.

That's going to quickly get stupid expensive. Even with the current discount plus the discount you get for the planes you bought for RoF, it'll add up.
OrLoK Posted July 21, 2018 Posted July 21, 2018 Yes they are. This volume has 10 planned planes (Plus all the additions one used to pay for, for free) Dont forget all parts of the BoX series often go on a 50pc sale, so one doesnt usually have to wait too long to get their hands on new content for far cheaper once they are fully released.
Ceowulf Posted July 21, 2018 Posted July 21, 2018 Is there any chance they'll make and sell one off's in between volumes? I would pay a mint per plane, that's for sure. Ceowulf<><
