New update file size is really big - a problem?

Just went to update my game for the new update and the download is 7.1 GB! Is this normal? seems like I'm redownloading the entire game?

Is that normal for this update, or is something funky going on?

When did you last update?

This patch does have a lot of content/changes.

I was all updated until this most recent patch...I decided against updating for a few days to let bugs sort out as I usually do. I just booted the game up to update tonight it so I can play this weekend. Most times I have to let the game run for a few hours to update properly. Getting better download speeds these days (1.3 mbps) but this one might still take a while lol.

I think mine was that. I really didn't check to be honest :)

It was a fairly substantial update. Three new aircraft, two new tanks, looks like some GUI and other changes, etc.

Today's update for me (hotfix) was less than 200 MB.

3.005 was 1.22 Gb pour moi.

The 1.22 gig update included a lot of new content: The A8, the WW1 planes and some tank stuff. That seems reasonable considering what it all packed in.

Well, the patch downloaded and installed successfully, don't think there was any problems. I just remembered from the last patch where some guys had ever-expanding updates and wondered if that was what was happening to me.

Thanks for all replies and help!

Steam install solved my similar problems...?

The last update for me was very little 500mb the 3.005b and the integration to steam is no again correct and perfect!

The all game(s) are 41.9 Gb on my HD the bigest part are all the extra skins for IL2.

And I did not buy the Tank game this one was over gudget and under interests. But I still have the 2 default tanks T34 and Pzkw III.

All this for more than 600 hours of fun less than 20 cent an hour, very cheap. :salute:

I’m curious I got the FW-190A-8 automatically through Steam before  the big update along with subtle menu changes in “settings.”  This wasn’t a problem ,I had purchased BoB well before, but I just wondered if Steam loaded this rather small update for those of us who pre-purchased the whole package?

I opened IL-2 Moscow/Stalingrd/RoF  last night, and was told to download a 10 gb upgrade! Can this be right? Is there some smaller download to actually upgrade, as distinct from what  must be total replacement? And to forestall enquiries whether I keep the program up to date - I do.

Trying again tonight - I am prevented from flying while the program is "Downloading game client (10.66 gb), 20.83 kB/s".  This is ridiculous.

Nothing to download on my end (Steam version).

Has it been months or years since you last played?  It must be a very bad bug if not.

The only time I've ever had an extremely slow download is when a new patch was released. Even at that, not nearly as slow as 20kb. Make sure "Prefer web distribution" is checked in the launcher.

Makes a strange kinda sense... if you haven't updated in a year why not open up a year-old thread to ask about the update size.  It's all about symmetry.

Puzzled??? Why does anyone think I haven't upgraded in a year? I last updated a month or so ago. The requirement to upgrade before flying is annoying, and bloated downloads are nothing new, but 10 Gb is absurd.

Problem seems to have been two installations of IL-2 Stalingrad and Moscow. One last updated in October 2018, one in April 2019.

If the update is not working then it is better to wait for the “This week big update” introducing new FC planes, the Swalbe and lot of improvements.
