Radio commands - how will they work?

Recommended Posts

Maybe I'm missing something, so please educate me here:

How will radio commnads work? Right now my pilot talks to the tower automatically to request permission to takeoff (not always though) and I can hear the same when an AI scrambles - although much more faintly.

In other games I have to press tab and select the message I would like to transmit. Will this be the way in BoS too?  Or will there be a limited amount of automatic messages only?

Right now I can't even find assigneable commands in the controls menu.

Thanks,

I'm pretty sure it's still very much WIP.

A resemblance with the classical IL2 system (tab key and numbers) would be good, since most of us are used to that.

I would go for a classical IL2 radio management.

Best would be clickable screen radio menu for me, but i can always dream...

Holding down a dedicated "talk to the tower" key, that had voice recognition, to ask your landing request would be even better.

Can't wait to see how well the AI follow command assignments so important to offline mode.

The tab-style interface of Il-2 is very good. Cliffs of Dover however is about as bad as it can get.

Many early Soviet aircraft had only radio receivers, only the flight lead would have a transceiver to give commands, I wonder if that will be modeled in someway since hand signals were important.

By looking over the BOS files it looks like BOS is a WW2 version of ROF. I dont think we will get anny RS like old Il2.

Prehaps nothing at all, just the same pre ingame voice we already have. Hope iam wrong :-P

Radio, Communication and Navigation

  • You will be able to issue radio commands to AI (by hearing your own duplicated radio command voice and AI response). (LOFT)
  • Ground forces will communicate with you over the radio. (LOFT)
  • Airfield services also become more sociable (compared to IL-2 [1946]). (LOFT)
  • Different radio frequencies (will be able to listed to enemy radio under certain conditions). (LOFT)
  • Airfield maintenance and supply service and ground units will use flares. (LOFT)
  • Radio navigation (beacons/AM stations) not planned for initial release. (LOFT)
  • No built-in VOIP (voice chat). (LOFT)
  • Navigational lights will be modeled. (BlackSix)

Sounds great, crossing my fingers. Thank you Extreme !
