Is PCIe 3 x8 a limitation?

Hi all,

 

Is there a known performance implication for IL2 running at x8 rather than x16? I have a GTX1070 and Intel processor running at 4.6ghz

 

Reason:

 

My mobo (ASUS Maximus Ranger 7) disables PCIe x16 and sets it to x8 for the graphics card if I have my M2 card in the next slot down but not if it's in the third (bottom slot). However, I only get full M2 speed if it's in the slot immediately next to the graphics card. The Mobo does have an M2 slot but the speed is not optimised in this slot either, confirmed by ASUS.

 

So, will I have to choose between fast loading and good frame rates or is x8 not a limitation?

Due to  a size (width) issue I had to run a GTX1080 in the second slot which i think is x8 (I do remember researching band width limitations  the time)

from what i recall there were very few if any issues overloading x8 and I have not noticed any performance difference in my case
