rolikiraly Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 This is only a bare idea (without considering the shortcomings and consequences if implemented): Would it be possible to add Italian, Hungarian, Romanian etc. air forces (or any of these)? They were quite on the area of the preview map or not far from that. This would make the whole thing more interesting, at least for me. It would actually balance things in terms of variety: Germans would only have Bf-109 variants (not even Fws) while Russians could get n+1 planes in terms of fighters 1
Original_Uwe Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 (edited) ..Germans would only have Bf-109 variants... Who needs anything else! Edited January 4, 2013 by CWMV
VaeTibi Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 (edited) Who needs anything else! Who needs fighters? They are only for defense, bombers are for attacking. To quote the 1943 documentary "The Thunderbolts:Ramrod to Emden" "The fighters first, last and only job is to protect the bomber" so guess how usefull a fighter is without bombers? How about Fighters gain air superiority or do CAP's? Shure did he say that in "Ramrod to Emden" because it was their main task to protect the Bombers while on approach to their targets, that doesn't necessarily mean that Bomber protection is their sole purpose. Back to Topic: Question would be where there any other Axis aircraft in the Stalingrad Region besides the Luftwaffe? Edited January 4, 2013 by Kongo-Otto

CAPs is more a game thing, any fighter hanging around a certain area for a longer period of time was usually dead due to flak fighters or both Especially when the area is over enemy territory. rolikiraly Posted January 5, 2013 Author Posted January 5, 2013 Back to Topic: Question would be where there any other Axis aircraft in the Stalingrad Region besides the Luftwaffe? Yes, definitely. Romanians flew from airfields that are just in the middle of our map. Italians were based a little bit to the west and i must admit that Hungarians were a little more to the west, but one can dream... Romanians could have IAR-80s and Bf-109Es and Hurricanes, the latter two could be done even if we don't have any Romanians. I didn't said i want only fighters. (Actually i have read about Romanians escorting Luftwaffe bombers) Who needs anything else! I love that plane, believe me, but i'm already a bit bored of its look and i have not even played any decent WW2 simulators for a longer period. Isn't it a bit boring for players with years (decades) of flight sim experience to have only Bf-109 for Axis? 1
4Shades Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Yes, Romanians were there, on the ground and in the air. Italians too.
MiloMorai Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Romanian Air Corps The Long Range Recon (DO-17M) and the 112th Liaison Squadrons (Fleet 10G) were also at its disposal. The Romanian Air Corps put at its disposal the 15th, 16th, 17th Observation (IAR 39) and the 114th Liaison Squadrons (Fleet 10G) covering a front of 270 km long. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romanian_Armies_in_the_Battle_of_Stalingrad
