Right, so WSAD to move

E to start/stop engine

left control+C to change crew position,

T to control the gun at your station,

Shift+T to look down the gunsight

scroll wheel to zoom

LMB for cannon (or MG if you're hull gunner), RMB for coax

right alt+; and . for adjusting range in gunsight,

right alt+, and / to adjust lead bar on soviet gunsights,

now, how on earth do I change the ammunition type I'm loading?

Well this is all well and good if you still have the default controls mapped.  The first thing I do in any sim is wipe them clean and redo only what I need.  So having the actual "name of the key bind" would be more helpful than just the default key itself.  This purchase has already made me rage quit just trying to get my cannon to fire.  I don't use turrets in aircraft so none of that stuff is mapped and I don't know what any of it should be mapped to.

Yea, they need to implement a tanks heading for the keybindings, it the three Slahinki posted I've not been able to find in the menus, and who knows what others I've missed.

It needs its own dedicated vehicles panel in controls specifically for controls. Having to search the web for answers absolutely shouldn't have to happen.

They are pretty clearly marked whats for Vehicles and whats not..

Seriously.

Sure, they're mostly labeled, but some that cross over with aircraft are a bit ambiguous, and also they are mixed in to such a sea of irrelevant commands that they can be overlooked with out too much difficulty.

Now, regarding swapping ammo types, is there no UI element that indicates which round type you've got selected for loading, or is that to do with my settings? (I play with virtually all aids off)

That doesn't negate the fact that you still have to scroll through far too many unrelated controls to find the ones you're looking for and that rebinding some of them in turn rebinds certain aircraft control functions. Is it the end of the world that you have to do this? No, absolutely not. Would it make complete sense to have a separate panel in the settings menu where vehicle controls are independent of everything else? Yeah, absolutely.

Hit I to bring up the vehicle panel. Swapping ammo types is depicted there.

When I hit I (india) all I get is a small compass at the bottom left, giving hull and turret baring.

[edit] ahh, so I need to have the "instrument panel" option enabled in the realism settings.

Is it possible to lean up to the periscope glass?

I finally found how to see the ammo types, etc. by having the instrument panel option checked in realism settings.  I hope they separate this option out for tanks in the future.

You'll probably need to set up snap views for this. I use TrackIR and honestly can't imagine how you'd see anything with out it, especially in the Tiger's TC cupola.

Has anyone managed to bind the maingunmovement to a joystick?

aiming with the mouse is not immersive at all.

I'll try and list the interesting commands by category.

Main Controls:

Hatch or canopy Open/Close

Window or visor Open/Close

External or landing lights On/Off

Cockpit or compartment lights On/Off

Vehicle Acceleration/Brake

Vehicle Turn

Engine Controls:

Engage engines start procedure/Stop Engine

(Don't think there is any more advanced engine management than that currently)

Weapons Controls:

Switch to a next free plane combat post

Turret: Take/Leave control

Turret: Nestle to the gunsight

Fire primary turret guns

Fire Secondary turret guns

Gunsight range adjustment

Gunsight horizontal adjustment

Gunsight reset

Select ammunition

(Gunsight filter, position or mode toggles don't seem to be doing anything ATM, so I'm guessing polarised gunsight filters and illuminated reticles are not yet implemented.)

Hope this can be of some sort of help.

Had this the first times I played, but it seems to have disappeared after I restarted my PC.

Yes, with JoyToKey.

I've been screaming for individual plane / vehicle controls for years, maybe now with the addition of tank crew and flying circus, we'll finally get it.

Since I don't have my stick in the UK tanks for me were a welcome addition.i changed all my bindings to make for an easier experience but I know that as soon as I get into a play e cockpit it is going to be a nightmare. We need separate vehicle controls for ground and Air.

IL-2_Tank.zip

Did some mess'n around with my Logitech X56 HOTAS and Combat Pedals to map this for use in VR mode.  File attached.

I mapped the joystick pitch and roll in the Logitech G interface for X56 (MadCatz for the X55 Rhino)  to mouse X and Y.  This allowed me turret aiming.  I inverted mouse Y axis in "Input Devices" screen to have it (cannon) elevate when I pulled back on stick and depress when I pushed forward for main cannon.

I had to adjust the sensitivity of the joystick in Input Devices section also in Tanks so it would not be over-responsive and I went to about a .09 noise reduction on the stick.....  Sensitivity to 4 and Acceleration to 3.  Checked "invert Y Axis" box as noted above.

This is set up with Zoom for NonVR play and for Zoom Hold for VR Play.

Didn't do up a template but you crewman can figure it out.

I mapped everything you gents noted above.

On the question of can we look out viewports above from Space Ghost.. yes.. in VR it's really pretty cool.. works perfectly and looks great.

For those of you with the X55... you can put the .pro file in your x55 profiles folder and I'm pretty sure the key bindings will be there... You will have to assign them yourself though.  I had to do that for all my X55 profiles when I converted to X56.... all the key presses and macros where there.. just nothing was assigned to any switch, button, or knob.. ugh... that was a long weekend....

In-game I mapped Pedals to Vehicle turn left and right, throttle to move forward/back (vehicle acceleration/brake and under engines throttle control)... so center throttle position is neutral.. lower half is reverse.. upper half is forward.

'nuff said...

Happy Plinking !

As an aside, you can actually quickly snap to the Gunner's seat, with full control of the gun, with Right Shift+1, and I believe Right Shift+2 to go immediately to the bow machine gunner's station though that's obviously much less useful
