I wasnt to excited for this one but, I already own ROF and missed the discount deadline and this seems like it would add more to the IL2 experiance. And my son who is 11 and likes to just crash my planes can kind of control the tanks better so this is a win win. Not to mention this I think would add a lot to Multiplayer having air and ground units interact. And my son likes tanks alot so I can watch him play while he watches me fly and good times will happen.

I've enjoyed the tanks since they were first added to the game as player controlled. To me, it was a great way to explore the maps from ground level. But more, it was something different to play in this series. It was different but still familiar. Big win for me.

The Tiger has been a blast so far.

How is the Tiger? Does it feel like an uber-monster with a mega-cannon?

I admit that the Tiger has me itchin' to buy Tank Crew sooner than later.

I've only used it on my Firing Practice Range. But when compared to the Pz III, the Tigers' cannon packs a wallop. If you hit the target, it's probably up in flames. ?

How’s the visibility in the thing? I know with some (most) of the tanks, buttoning up severely reduces visibility, but have you noticed any differences in the tiger/kv1 from the t-34 and pz-III? I’m sure the commanders spot is pretty helpful.

Sorry, I haven't spent any time driving all buttoned up and checking that aspect out.  ?

The main advantage over the previous tanks is that four crew positions are fully modeled. You can finally operate a vehicle without constantly staring through the sight or being forced to switch to external views. Quickly switching from gunner to commander is useful. The tank can be operated fairly well without any external views.

It does not feel extremely powerful, however. You are vulnerable to 76 mm guns. If you expose yourself to enemy fire for too long, something will usually get damaged.

The tank is clearly large and heavy. When you open the commander’s hatch and look down, you can appreciate the height of the vehicle. Although crew positions are quite cramped, the interior is cavernous compared to the smaller tanks.

With controls properly configured to quickly switch between position  and operate all weapon functions, the vehicle is effective. The fire rate of the KwK is quite high, so a miss isn’t the end of the world.

The two new tanks definitely have a leg up over the old ones in terms of visibility under armor, considering your only viewports on the old T-34 and Panzer III were the driver's vision slits/periscopes and the gunner's sight. Both the KV-1S and the Tiger I have proper all-around vision blocks for the commander, and usually a periscope or vision slit for each other crew station.

That being said, you're still three-quarters blind when buttoned up. The cupola on the Tiger is abysmal (headtracking makes it better, so you can lean in close, but it's still pretty awful), and the cupola on the KV-1S is only somewhat better but offset by the fact that there's no hatch in it. You definitely want to have your head out as the commander any time you're not under artillery barrage, air attack, or have enemies close enough to hit you with an MG or something.

KV-1:  While in the commander's seat, open the hatch, hit shift T and you pop outside.  If you are in the cupola, just opening the hatch will pop you out.

Commander can fire the rear facing gun also.

We need key buttons for the periscopes. Its not good with the trackir, also separate keys for different crew member is a must.

I think that soviet 76mm gun with normal ap rounds cant penetrate tiger from side armor and definitely not the front even from 100m which is possible now in game. (Im not counting lucky hits to vision slots)

Yeah, just every time I pop my head up as the KV-1 TC, I imagine him stepping over the loader (Or not? I've read that the KV-1 may have had a two man turret with the commander pulling double duty as loader, but that doesn't really seem to make sense with the arrangement of the 1S's turret), it just seems a bit odd not to have put a hatch on the top of that cupola. The French did it too, so maybe they know something I don't.

As for the rear gun, I didn't know that! That's neat, usually in games that depict tanks with those seemingly-extraneous machine guns they're left inoperable.

I finally tried the tanks out today and a shell flew over my head and I jumped out of my chair that instantly sold me on getting this later.

Fences and stuff need to be destructible, I find it strange that I can't smash through a small fence with my Tiger ?
