I'm unclear and am going to ask,

I'm keen to jump in flying circus but am unclear if it needs battle of stalingrad as a base game?

And if it did - i've got the steam version of stalingrad - would the planes just pop up in there?

Or is it totally standalone and at some point in future i'll see it in steam?

You buy a Account permission. All you need files already in  BOS client.

Cheers BaiCaiX. And it'll work with a steam version of BOS?

Yes - too many Steam users place this all important emphasis on Steam... All of your content and licensing is handled on 777/1CGS' side - anything you purchase here on the website appears IN-GAME (not in your library) in your Steam version of IL-2: Great Battles.

Thanks for the clarification!
So I can buy it on the website and find the planes available in my steam BOS
And I need to tell my mate that's interested in getting flying circus that it's not standalone - he'll need to purchase BOS - steam or standalone

No - you don't need to buy anything else to use Flying Circus. For those of your mates who have nothing up till now, they simply can buy FC or

what ever they want on THIS website, then they can download the setup file to install the product the bought.

I'm going to buy it and see what happens (in steam)
And i'll tell my mate with nothing that all he needs is FC. He doesn't need to buy and install BOS ("All you need files already in  BOS client." - I read as you need BOS)

Just think of it like this...

IL-2: Great Battles contains a number of different standalone expansions that exist under a single, unified launcher.

IL-2: Flying Circus Pt. I

IL-2: Battle of Stalingrad

IL-2: Battle of Bodenplatte

Those three standalone expansions are a part of the IL-2: Great Battles series and aren't contingent on one another in any way.

Got you and thanks all for trying to set me straight
I think my steam confusion comes from these -  "Note: On Steam, customers must first purchase Battle of Stalingrad if they wish to purchase Battle of Bodenplatte"
And I then assume when I read FC is currently two planes with the old maps ...

Yeah, that's just the way Steam handles the delivery/licensing of products and add-ons.

The series also went through a bit of a rebranding in the last year since Battle of Kuban was released - a lot of the marketing materials are a little incongruous and out of date.
