HagarTheHorrible Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 Disclaimer;- I haven't played RoF for a long time, particularly with the final patches. I await it's release, with some trepidation. It was a fun aircraft to fly but it had it's limits and without preparation it was a bit of an unruly beast. Response curves, in the controller settings, were important, maybe even essential and, given the low altitude of most combat, taking a minimum of fuel was vital to prevent lawn darting. No "response curves" may make the Camel a challenge to fly on the edge and compete competitively against the likes of the DR1 or even the, increadiably manouverable, Pflaz DIII.
Feathered_IV Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 The RoF Camel requires the user to pull the stick back into their stomach to get out of a spin. Even with the engine off, which goes against all real-life recommendations. It will be interesting to see if such peculiarities are reproduced in FC or if the new game brings some more realistic behaviour.
J2_Trupobaw Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 The Camel became much more controllable (and D.IIIa, much less maneuvrable) in Teh Last Patch. The FC Dr.1 and Spad don't handle exactly like current RoF ones anyway... it really is redone more than ported. So what we remember isn't what we'll be getting.
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 While not a 1:1 portation it should generally handle the same as in RoF (only future can tell if and which adjustments are made). Hopefully they won't be a plague as in RoF before the last update. The only good Camel is a spinning Camel.
Sotka94 Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 (edited) I find the new Dr.I more pleasant and controllable to maneuver, even at 100% fuel, than in RoF. Perhaps the same will apply to the Camel? Edited July 19, 2018 by Kreisau

Perhaps the same will apply to the Camel? Me too, although I could do with a properly configurable pitch axis or I am going to have to reduce my centre spring strength. Both the Dr.1 and SPADs were among my least favourite planes in RoF so my recollections may be imprecise. Once we get an Albatross, a D.VII and an N17 I will be much better able to compare and contrast. For now it is just fun to have proper aeroplanes in the BoX world.
Archie Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 I'm really waiting for my SE5a back. Never really got on with the Camel for some reason.

J2_Trupobaw Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 (edited) I find Dr.I more stable and less "fluid" - sudden maneuvers take a bit longer to execute, but there is less inertia and more control to them. Spad stall behaviour in sustained turn feels bit more gentle. The differences may be in way Rof and BoX handle FFB. Edited July 19, 2018 by LsV_Trupobaw
