Freycinet Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 Regarding Stalingrad. - This book is THE BEST history book about the battle: http://www.amazon.com/Enemy-Gates-Battle-Stalingrad-Tie-/dp/0142000000/ref=la_B001IXO04U_1_1_title_1_pap?ie=UTF8&qid=1355239557&sr=1-1 "Enemy at the Gates" by William Craig. - It is NOT about the sniper duel, but about the whole battle. The sniper duel just takes up three pages of the book. - If you haven't read about the Battle of Stalingrad then do yourself a favour and read this book (It is much better than Beevor's). Craig really makes the battle come alive, and the enormity of it comes through in every page. An emotional and informative read. - You can read the first pages of the book for free at the Amazon link, to get a feeling for Craig's writing.
[LAS]URURolf Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 If it talks about the duel, then it is not good. It never happened. I prefer Beevors crude description of the main role in battle of lice and fleas.

I prefer Beevors crude description of the main role in battle of lice and fleas. No duel, it just spends three pages about the snipers at stalingrad. How can you prefer beevors book if you didn't read both? :-)

WklinkTomCofield Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 It's sad that they put that movie poster front on the book. It is a good, historic account of the entire battle. The movie bears absolutely no resemblance to the book.
