I'm not sure if it's just me, and it's taken me a while to properly notice, but time acceleration seems to be pretty bugged (in the campaign). While very very occasionally it works properly, nearly all the time it never goes past 2x speed, going to x4 and x8 makes absolutely no difference in speed and it appears to just be stuck on x2.

Same here, I think it depends on the level of objects and activity.

There is no computer fast enough to compute the sim world past 2x speed. The denser the action, the less you can get. Under some circumstances, the sm even gets problems keeping up with 1x speed.

In campaign missions with alot going on, I can hardly get past 1.4x speed. on an i9 @~4.6 GHz.

How come i can go x32 speed in DCS fine then? Or in Cliffs of dover? or 1942?

Depends on what is really computed in the simworld. You say, you can di 32x in DCS? Did you check that with your stopwatch? 2 seconds being one minute? Does that work when you have units present? 1942, you mean Pacific Air War? These old sims used to take from the rendering overhead when using accellerated time, hence dramatic stutters appeared. Also, you were no guaraneed to really speed up 32x.

It would also depend how a sim is handling "the rest of the world" once you speed up your time. In BoX, all runs as it does in normal speed.

No, but you are splitting hairs. Point is you can speed up the world dramatically with other sims and not in this, so it is clearly not the case that computers can't do it, but a bug, or limitation within the game (one which i don't think existed before 3.000).

This may well be so. Yes.

That depends on what the computer has to do when speeding up time.

Yes you may well call it such. In RoF, you could speed up to 16x. But you couldn't really pass 4x speed.

It really comes down to the specific overhead a game requires to compute the real world in given time. The more stuff you let the sim do, the sooner you'll reach the limit. Take it as a feature of this sim. It is the way it was made from early on.
