dburne Posted July 14, 2018 Posted July 14, 2018 (edited) https://www.roadtovr.com/facebook-spent-88m-year-oculus-seattle-area-satellite-hq/ Speaking to Road to VR earlier this year regarding its recent VR/AR hiring spree, an Oculus spokesperson said this: “Overall, the growing number of job openings across AR and VR are an indication of the level of commitment that Facebook/Oculus is making in the VR space.” These guys are very serious about VR/AR. E69_Qpassa_VR Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 The thing is that in the near future there are no more options than the PiMax, quite disappointing

chiliwili69 Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 The point is that with all this money Oculus is diversifying the VR offering in mobile and PC. This year they have focused in mobile with Oculus Go. I was hoping they will announce the CV2 in the Oculus Connect in October-2018. But I have my doubts. They announced the CV1 in Oculus Connect October-2015 (one year before they announced the Crecent Bay prototype), and CV1 was available in March-2016. I am now thinking (since there is still no real competition according to SteamVR numbers) that maybe they will drop the price a bit more on the Rift, focus more in mobile VR and postpone the announcement of CV2 for October-2019. Anyhow, just thinking. Let´s see what they do in October this year. We need to take into account that the Rift is quite OK for most of the other non-sim games, where resolution is not so important. Let´s see if these Pimax guys finally release the final product and introduce a bit of development rush, like in the early DK1-DK2 days with Palmer heading Oculus.
dburne Posted July 19, 2018 Author Posted July 19, 2018 Don't forgot Santa Cruz is in the pipeline and indications are it will be next up for a release.
chiliwili69 Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 But Santa Cruz is just VR mobile with 6DOF, not for PC.

Yep I am well aware of that, stand alone headset with built in computer, just pointing out it is in the lineup as well. I imagine much of OC5 will be focused on it, with probably early glimpses of CV2 ( Half Dome?)... I would bet though when they do push out what we would refer to as a CV2, it will be an incredible piece of equipment. They are really focused on technology improvements to help performance, ie eye tracking , foveated rendering, varifocal displays, gloves, etc. Edited July 19, 2018 by dburne
chiliwili69 Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 Oooohhh my god, VR is just wonderful. I have just tried this night the Flying Circus, the SPAD and the Fokker. It is delicious. The sense of flying at low speed is even better than in BoX. A dogfight in FC is almost an art. Definitely I want the CV2 now!!.

I will say though I was getting that motion sick feeling from some of the tight twists and turns I was doing - especially following in a tight turn fight. Had to take a break here and there, I am sure I will adapt just like I did originally when I first got VR.

All kinds of warping issues with it, laggy screens that drag the world around with latency, tracking upsidedowns, pukes and headaches, and more. That said I hope they get it right, in order to not just leave the market to premium producers such as Oculus and HTC. We've all seen how HTC ramped up the Vive Pro prices. Competition is good. Have a Samsung Odyssey now, with same screens as Vive Pro, but the better Samsung lenses.
