I use steam a lot and I like it....but can I buy Stalingrad off this site and still get a steam key? If not I'm thinking I'll get Stalingrad off the main site anyway just to support the developers. Is there a reason why Steam might be worth it besides the convenience of the downloadbility and multiplayer server / chat system?

Yes you can. When you run the game, it'll give you a list of your applicable Steam keys.

The only additional benefit I've seen with buying through Steam is during sale season, if 1C isn't running a promotion at the same time.

->You receive Steam-Key for free if you pre-order their Games

-> If you want Steam you need Battle of Stalingrad Steam Version. Buy a second Battle of Stalingrad on sale or use your free Steam Key

-> the ability to improve the rating from this game

-> If you have a lot other Steam-Games in your Steam library

Buying on the devs site won't get you a Steam key, unless you pre-ordered BOS before it officially launched (too late).

There is an option on Steam to add games you didn't buy from Steam to your Steam library, so you can play them through Steam, but I don't know if it works with IL2.

Great thx everyone I'll get it off this site. It seems there is a problem with Kuban and Steam? Hope they work it out soon. But I need Moscow or Stalingrad to play multiplayer. It looks like very few Kuban aircraft are available for multiplayer maps.

HOLY MACKERAL!!! BOS is on MEGA sale!!!!good timing!

It depends. In most cases, this is true. However, there were a few where a Steam key was promised after the product was released. E.g.

I note that now the line about "You will have the option to receive a Steam key for this product after its release" has been removed from the Ju 52/3m store entry, so no doubt they are working on it.

With all these things, I would suggest waiting for a few days to let them sort it out. 1C/777 are pretty good with doing that, but it can sometimes take a while... especially given the huge number of players/accounts that need to be done.

I have a related question. I also purchased BOS off the IL2 store and then added it to my Steam library by using the "add a non-Steam game to my library" option. It's a little odd though, Steam doesn't keep track of my hours played nor does it think I really own it because it still gives me the option to buy the game in their store.

This begs the question - will airplanes or additional maps I buy on Steam work with my copy of BOS purchased from the IL2 store? I'd be pretty pissed if I bought a bunch of stuff on the next Steam sale and then find out Steam wants me to rebuy BOS from them for everything to work right together...

Yes it will work. Basically the game client contains all packages, and collector planes. It's the game account that restricts what you can and cannot fly.

You might want to read the announcement for update 3.004 about the linking of Steam and IL-2 accounts, which clearly states, that everything you purchase either on Steam or the IL-2 website, will work, when you linked the accounts.

On a sidenote, IIRC whenever there is a sale on Steam, there also is a sale on IL-2, so you can buy the stuff from the team, to give them your money.

Yes we all know you've recently proven yourself as a Steam fanatic, however, there is little point whatsoever in a middleman taking a tremendous cut from a small niche product like this.

To play devils advocate, if the steam platform exposes the game to millions of steam users, that may not even have been aware of it, and a small fraction of which subsequently buy it, then they have earned a small piece of the pie in my books.

I bought the initial BOS through steam then pretty much everything else from the website. Chances are that I would have not been aware of of BOS if it was not for steam.

So much fanatism because i like steam, sure makes sense. You are steam hater then. 30% in copmare to real game sold in stores is not much.

And if publisher wants, he can put higher price on steam to lower that 30% tax. But yeah, cry because 30% is too much, in times of digital distribution it's way cheaper than it would be as DVD copy. They don't do 10% off pre order bonus on steam, so 30% is lowered to 20% already.

And that too, i wonder how many people started buying il2 because they found it on steam (i did). That money is put to run store, servers, it helps smaller studios to publish their games and get huge success.

It's easy to cry about this 30% but hard to realise that steam could make them make more money than not having game on steam and force people to buy it only on their website without this evil tax.

My theory is it just makes more sense to purchase directly from the developer if possible. That being said, for the publicity they gain I don't think the cut Steam takes is hurting 1C that much either.
