Game doesn't want to Tab back in.

The Game runs fine, FPS are good and Stable, but when I tab out and try to tab in, the Game becomes inactive and will not run again. This doesn't happen in any other games.

I have no Overlays running.

Full Screen Option is off.

It used to work on my old Hard Drive. I'm now on an SSD and my Windows install is new. All drivers are installed, and other games (BeamNG so far) run just fine and Tab in and back out just fine.

Is there some Program or Windows thing that prevents the Game from running normally again after being Tabbed out (except for that weird Fullscreen thing?)

Arma 3 also Tabs in and out just fine

I tried several Re-Installs, deleted the entire Folder on the Steam Commons, except skins and inputs, generally cleared all caches, what else can I try? I reinstalled graphics and audio drivers as well now, no betterment.

It must be some Conflict with Windows and it not drawing RAM back to the Game.

It's a known issue with plenty of people and has been for some time.

To mitigate this for myself I leave a random folder open in the taskbar and that really helps.

Have you tried changing in game graphical options, in case windows is in diplomatical disagreement with one of them (SSAO or such) ?

What happens if you run the game in fullscreen mode ?

I 'can't remember all my settings by memory but I had a lot of troubles with alt+tabbing last year, though it wasn't systematic like on your computer. After having modified a few things in the settings, it went better for me. I can't remember the exact reasons behind each change (most are performance related), but one thing for sure is that I'm intentionally running the game in fullscreen mode.

The only systematic crash I get now is when alt+tabbing during any loading screen. This one my computer hates.

Fullscreen on or off makes no Difference- I'll try low Graphic Settings.

What do you mean by leaving a folder open? How does it help?

Turned down all Graphic Settings both in the NVidia Settings as well as the game. No Antialiasing or anything. I'm running the Game in an undersized Window now, but that doesn't help either.

Not sure if it's your problem, but anyway:

Open a txt file or a PDF, or any application that doesn't take much resources. Don't minimize it, leave it on your desktop. Start the game, try Alt-Tabbing, report back.

(Alt-Tabbing is for switching between applications, if there's no other application open and running, Alt-Tab doesn't work properly.)

I closed all open Applications, opened an Editor Window, started the Game, left it tabbed in until I got to the Selection Screen for Quick Missions, Settings, MP etc.

Tabbed out  to the Editor, tabbed directly back to the Game and it still didn't want to run.

Now, I'm running an undersized Window, but it overlaps with the Task Bar. Trying to Tab back into the Game the Task Bar still sits over the Game, so the Lower Edge of the Game is hidden underneath the Bar. Normally the Game Screen would cover the Task bar at least partially (depending on Resolution).

Ok, I tried running it in Compatibility, and Tabbing in and out Works, but with far more delay than I am used to.

It must have something to do with the System almost completely stopping allocating any ressources once Tabbed out. Could it be some kind of Energy Saving Technique?

Energy savings, I doubt it, but ressource management stupidity, maybe.

Is there any kind of priority management within w10 that could have put IL2 on low priority for ressource allocation ?

IIRC there was something like this to force high CPU priority on certain programs on windows 7 when you had performance issues.

Out of curiosity, are your graphic card drivers up to date ? Or have you tried to run another, older version ?

Klaus, do you run the game in your monitor's native resolution? (If not, it might have something to do with the issue IMO)

I'm in Win-8.1 64bit, 24GB RAM, 1TB SSD, newly installed a couple of days ago.

Nvidia GTX850M and 2.2 overclocking to 3.2 i7. Ressources are basically not an issue.

Uuups, sorry, I supposed you were on Win10.

I put il-2.exe on Realtime Priority and Win-8 Compatibility. Everything in the System I can think of is set on full Performance.

It kind of Tabs in and out now, but takes aroun 5-10 Seconds and apparently takes so much Power to do all that that all other Programs (Media Player and TS3) become unresponsive. It seems like a Dog with a big Stick trying to get through a Door.

What kind of Virtual Bottleneck could the Game create for itself?

It barely takes 1GB of RAM on Startup, CPU Load goes up a little (to 20%, 12% in the Menu), SSD remains at 0% Load. It remains perfectly still on Tabbing out.

Tabbing back in it suddenly raises CPU Load to 100% Peaks for a couple of Seconds, and then goes back down to Normal.

Why would it take all the CPU just to Tab back in?

OK: Deactivating the EventLog Service has improvved Loading massively.

I have the same problem, on Windows 10. Just tried tabbing, with the event log service disabled. Unfortunately, didn't seem to make any difference.

Leaving a bump here, my problems are of the same nature as Gruber's. I tried various graphics settings both in game and Nvidia control panel, admin mode, compatibility mode, moving the game around the disk files, still no good. Game Re-ta s after about 30secs to 1 minute, whis is unacceptable. Will try disabling event log tonight but I'm a bit sceptical.

I have w10, AMD 6300 cpu, 16gb RAM and a brand new 1060 3gb.

Just tried the advice about running IL-2 as administrator. I initially wondered about the details of this, since the startup that I was familiar with was to start launcher.exe which in turn starts IL-2.exe, hence, how would you run the game as administrator?

So, first I tried to just run IL-2.exe, not the launcher. No problem there. I feel a bit stupid now having started the sim for months using the launcher.

Next, I ran IL-2.exe as administrator, and was able to tab in and out without a huge delay. Still a delay of a few seconds, but absolutely a huge improvement.

Well, here is the funny thing: In Offline Mode the Game Tabs flawlessly, and behaves normally. It's only in Online Mode that it behaves slowly.

Yeah only thing I ever use the Launcher for is updating the game, I never really launch the game through it.

I have a shortcut on my desktop for IL-2.exe.

Well, it's a Network Problem. Admin+Compatibility Vista SP3+Anti Virus to Low Performance PC Settings does a lot for me.

Well, some of the Guys in my Squad have the same Problem, and in Offline Mode it works fine for them and me, so it's a Problem with the Game. The Devs are notified and hopefully this Issue gets fixed soon.

I would put this as a Continuation of the Topic.

On the topic of how the tabbing issue disappeared (or diminished) for me by running IL-2 as administrator. Just spent some time on WoL, got into some quite busy areas where I would certainly have had some microstutter before, but now, running as administrator, none, pretty much.

I'm quite curious now regarding what exactly happens differently when you run this as administrator. I'm not a Windows guy, so I don't know, but I would find it somewhat sketchy if there were network security checks being done normally which got turned off when an application is run as administrator.

It seems to be an Online Issue, since when you try Offline Login the Game Tabs in and out normally.

Have you tried without Admin, but Offline?

Posted

Just tried, yes, absolutely! If anything, tabbing offline even without Admin is faster than online with Admin.
