II./JG27_Rich Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Will we be able to sellect different numbers to put on our aeroplanes soon or will that be coming with the release.
FlatSpinMan Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Not possible in RoF and as far as I know, which is not very far at all, it's not in the plans for BoS. Hope I'm wrong though.
Zak Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 We consider an option to put your unique number on the fuselage. Not certain yet, but there's a chance. 13
=RvE=Windmills Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 We consider an option to put your unique number on the fuselage. Not certain yet, but there's a chance. Very good to hear. I don't think anyone is in a rush to have this in, even adding it only after release would be completely fine imo. As long as it's there at some point.

Pretty important for squadrons. Otherwise it will have to be all custom skins with the correct numbers Edited January 20, 2014 by II./JG27_Rich 2
unreasonable Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Really hope you can do this: not just for own a/c but also for AI wingmen in SP ... really good to form up after a fight and see who is left!
Finkeren Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 We consider an option to put your unique number on the fuselage. Not certain yet, but there's a chance. So great to hear. It's one of the few major shortcomings in RoF. It would make a lot of this community very happy, if you made this a priority somewhere along the road.
71st_AH_Hooves Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Very happy to hear this is being considered. It's the little things you know? I'd still like some ground troops. Moving through the city. And having little firefights.
Rama Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Some chance is better than no chance. Agree 100%
LLv44_Mprhead Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 I really hope this will happen, so good to hear that you are at least considering it
Emgy Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Maxed my upvote quota, so I'll just add a +1 here. It really enhances the sense of immersion.
stiboo Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 +1 I will be very disappointed if this is not included.
siipperi Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 I want rearm and refuel too. Not sure if there already is, but we absolutely need this...
pilotpierre Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Agree, different a/c numbers would be a big immersion plus.
ShamrockOneFive Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 They would have to do it right (IMHO) and make sure that it was flexible enough to work in a variety of future circumstances. It seems be working fairly well right now with them just painting it on... the trouble is that you'll always have unnumbered or very similar looking aircraft unless you invest in huge numbers of skins or the like.
II./JG27_Rich Posted January 21, 2014 Author Posted January 21, 2014 You almost need them in full real arenas sometimes and Luftwaffe fighters look odd without their number or cheveron.
FlatSpinMan Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 I guess the problem is getting to look right, ie not like a slapped on decal, and also getting them 'right'. The variety of placements and patterns they'd need to include is pretty big (though the narrow focus of the game makes it easier than in IL2), especially for the LW. I'm so pleased to hear they're considering it. It adds so much to the look of missions and is far less cumbersome than individual skins.
unreasonable Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Playing SP campaigns for the LW in IL-2 I always liked individual skins for my own unit and decals for everyone else. Photos of LW fighter units often show a wide variety of paint schemes in the same shot, and seeing this in flight makes the sim much more appealing. For enemy a/c flashing past at 500 km/h it is less important, but it was still fun pulling up beside a burning I-16 and saying "goodbye number seven!"
Foobar Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 good news! I see a tiny chance to get back the 24 on my Gustav
kestrel79 Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Loved this feature in original IL2. Was a nice easy way to tell who was who on the ground when flying online in full real no icons game modes. Can't wait to put that big ole 79 on my planes!
1./KG4_Blackwolf Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 (edited) Yes, this would be great. I use 13 all the time. IL2, and the other game I can just add it to the skin. ROF is the only one I can't. I do not have the skills to add a custom skin to all planes with 13 on it as you have to in ROF. It will make telling your squad mates apart from other players on line easier. You should hear our TS in ROF, "Hey did you just take off?" "No I'm right here beside you"! "No you're not I'm alone now that one took off", "Oh that's not you beside me?". This would be a big help to somewhat customize the plane! IL2' 46 The other IL2 Edited January 21, 2014 by Blackwolf 1
Volkoff Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 We consider an option to put your unique number on the fuselage. Not certain yet, but there's a chance. That would be very cool, Zak. A chance is better than no chance, for sure. MJ
Mogster Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 They never look right though and mostly they spoil the look of the skins underneath. The P47 from IL2 looks OK, maybe because the skins are quite low res anyway but on the CloD 109 skin the numbers look like they're floating, not attached to the skin.
Allons Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 We consider an option to put your unique number on the fuselage. Not certain yet, but there's a chance. Hi Zak, would be highly needed for identifying pilots/players ingame. This and the numbers being added in the pilots list ingame.. Can´t be repeated often enouph - Can´t be repeated often... Best from Berlin, Allons! 1

I agree that in IL2 the game numbers looked pretty bad. There was however a 3rd party software that made the numbers, and all markings, look excellent. I feel confident that 777 could do it right. VBF-12_Stick-95 Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 (edited) Thanks Extreme_One, I couldn't for the life of me remember the name of it and it has been off my drive for some time. Edited January 22, 2014 by VR-Stick
