Spitfire Merlin engine MKIX HELP!!!

When I chose to shutdown my engine and I just restarted and when I start to give it power during takeoff all of a sudden the engine chokes on the throttle and it will go as up as 75% throttle then bang back to 7 or 9% at max. Is there something I'm doing wrong or is this a glitch

I doubt there is a glitch - something is happening based on what you are doing.  As with all this kind of thing, if you want people to solve your problem you have to be much more specific about the circumstances.  For instance, are you playing with the complex engine management helpers on or off? I.e. what are your realism settings. Are you careful to set all the controls to the required position for take-off?

If I had to guess one thing I would say that you might have got your fuel mix set to fine somehow when on take-off it needs to be on rich, but unless you tell us your settings and exactly what you are doing no-one can help.

With the throttle position jumping up and down like that it sounds like you have more than one control bound for your throttle and they are sending the game conflicting settings. I'd check your settings and verify that you don't have it double bound. If that isn't the case go through and check all your controls in cockpit and see if something is producing throttle movement that shouldn't be.

Without more information it is hard to say what the issue might be.

I don't know what joystick/throttle you are using, but it might be also worth checking in the calibration screen if there isn't any spike from an aging potentiometer

The airplanes set on ace mode and sorry for not being specific I'm a total noob at the sims flight mechanics. I'm great at skinning the planes if it helps though I just have these on

Auto mixture and supercharger on-

Prop pitch set to auto

I'm flying the plane on ace setting with the main setting for realism on normal.   I checked throttle control there is nothing else paired to it when the engines runs fine by default when  I spawn in it works. the only problem is when I land and shut it off I cant takeoff again

Is it maybe because the engine is... off :)

lol jks.   You mean there is a difficult on restarting the engine and it’s performance on takeoff failing?

Lol Yep I go through the whole startup procedure and when it's running I starting ramping the throttle up then the throttle meter goes from let's say 75% to 6-9% with a second and my joystick Was at full power. The throttle worked fine before I shut of the engine after landing I hope I'm not confusing you to much lol

Hehe ya no worries, I’m gonna try this when I get home tomorrow...(on night shift). so is this quick mission with custom difficulty settings or set to expert?

I do have a problem that when on a cold map the throttle gets stuck on 20% making it impossible to land without turning the engine off and gliding in. Anyone else have this?

If your throttle is stuck, how about changing the prop pitch, as surely that would help!?

I have just tested using Normal on the Moscow and Novosomewhereorother with no issues: but it is theoretically possible that Normal is doing something peculiar since it has automated mix, rpm and throttle to use only one lever, and it may be trying to coordinate them in some way in your specific case. But I have not been able to replicate this.

Best advice is always to switch to expert and see what happens - if the problem does not happen then, it is the normal settings. If it does it is your HOTAS spiking or something to do with your bindings, duplicated settings or axis dead-zones.

Nah its quick mission because the plane is on ace setting with a main setting of normal

Air or ground start at beginning of mission?

Ok ace setting with main of normal... not following what you mean,

now if you’re talking ‘realism’ setting either normal, expert, or custom....

and your aircraft load out is default without any mods...

—-So I tried custom, warm engine, nav markers, and air start 1000m

landed, shutdown, start up,takeoff ,,,,works fine

—tried expert, air start 1000m, landed, shutdown, start up, takeoff... works fine

—-tried normal, airstart ... landed, shut down, start up, tried to add power... throttle goes up then back down as OP described

The tried mission as ground start, worked fine, take off, land, shut down, start up, no dice..... same problem...

Now I tried experimenting controls to see what the dillio in the chacha is going on..

i noticed the “automatic rpm limiter” leftshift+ N .....  turned it off and added power... and it worked!   Took off and then once airborne and cruising I turned it back on and everything was ok...

yeah ah so if your flying in normal realism mode.... and this is happening when you shut down.,. Turn off the rpm limiter and it should work fine..

Oooook and now I’m off to sleep... gotta fix them planes tonight for you travelling folks in the morning...

good luck and happy landings!!

The only "ace" setting is the one that affects the AI planes if you are choosing a dogfight option in the QMB, and I can assure you that it can have absolutely no effect on your engine.

I could not replicate your problem, but as Spartan85 has, I am not surprised that the culprit is the automatic engine management in Normal difficulty settings.  So you can either turn those off or just live with it: after all, landing, shutting the engine down and then restarting is a pretty unusual thing to do, so hardly surprising that no-one has mentioned this before.

IT WORKED!!!! Thanks spartan85  and I meant realism normal sorry about the confusion didn't have my computer with me at that moment in time so that solved my problem thanks a lot. Hey do want a custom skin done or something any plane I can do it just let me know here

Hey no problem!  That was honestly my first time troubleshooting something in this sim... :)

I would recommend using the custom realism setting and slowly tick off things you would want to try manually... more complex engine management... good practice..

And custom paint work?! Awesome!  Honestly, all I would really want to see is an aircraft with field repair patches on it...

i mean an aircraft can only be perfect for so long..

in our hanger at work there are some lovely patches that our sheet metal team put on the aircraft, when damaged of course... not just for fun ?

so fresh unpainted patchwork would be awesome...
