352ndRoodster Posted July 10, 2018 Posted July 10, 2018 (edited) G`day Guys, I am new to BOS after playing IL2 1946 for a long time. Last night I got into a multiplayer game for the first time since purchase of the game with a mate of mine and I had frame rates of min 15 to a max of 25. After adjusting some of the Graphics in game, we came to the conclusion that I have a hardware issue. I bought this computer new from Dell in 2014. My system specs are: DELL XPS 8700 WIN 10 1TB 7200rpm Hard Drive 4th Gen Intel Core i7-4790 processor (8M Cache, up to 4.0 Ghz NVIDIA GEFORCE GT720 1GB DDR3 8GB Dual Channel DDR3 1600Mhz (4GBx2) So I am asking you guys if this is a weak system to be playing BOS? What can I do to get up to some more reasonable frame rates? Cheers Roodster Edited July 10, 2018 by Roodster
kramer Posted July 10, 2018 Posted July 10, 2018 (edited) All components of your computer are strong enough to play IL2 comfortably - except GT720 graphic card. It is not a card designed to play new games. What resolution do you use? Maybe there is an option to replace just the graphic card? Edited July 10, 2018 by kramer
dburne Posted July 10, 2018 Posted July 10, 2018 Agreed, need a better GPU. Not much ram on that GPU either. I would suggest either a GTX 970 or better.

G`day Kramer, My screen resolution is 1920x1080, but I believe you & dburne might have nailed the problem in that I need a better graphics card. thanks for the help guys..?? Roodster
DD_Perfesser Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 (edited) Funny your old name displays a few seconds.... Long time no see buddy..... That hard drive is an issue too I think. SSD will help. Does Win10 have the "windows experience" like Win7? That will evaluate your rig and ID the weak links. I have less CPU (3.4ghz), an SSD, a GTX 1070, and 16G RAM. Solid 60 fps sometimes in the 50's. I will look into the SSD & Hard Drive also.. looks like players need a minimum 2GB GPU which would have been nice to know before buying the game.. which server do you get into? Does Goth still fly with you?? Roodster
DD_Perfesser Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 (edited) WOL mostly.... .I'll PM when I can Edited July 11, 2018 by DD_Perfesser

FYI a BoS performance chart for various Nvidia GPUs: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,59046.0.html Anything down to 30% shall be fine, but forget the rest. Avoid the 780 as it has issues in BoS .
Dakpilot Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 Prior to most recent big graphic update I could often see use of up to 3.5GB of VRAM with options turned up (although at higher res than 1080p) Have not recently checked VRAM usage but maybe someone has this current info at 1080p with new options (view distance etc.) Cheers, Dakpilot
sniperton Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 @1080p with view distance set to 70 km VRAM usage is about 2.5 GB. You're right, Dakpilot, it seems that 3 GB of VRAM is recommended in any case.
