Career Mode - inflight gameplay questions

Looking around I found a lot of tutorials and videos about tactics and technical details to fly all the different plaes (especially the ones from Requiem - really fantastic work!!).

All these guides refers mainly on online gameplay but I did not find anything on career mode; I play mainly offline because my limited time and also because I prefer it, I found career mode a lot more involving, question of taste I think.

However, I fear tactics should be a little different I think, for instance: during a bomber intercept mission, I would like my squadron attack fighters but my wingman covers me in the attack of the bombers, is this possible? I did not find nothing in command do to this, maybe I'm in wrong.

About the A.I. I think was really improved but I still have problem to understand some behaviours, who plays offline modes surely understand what I'm saying. What are their "rules of engagement"?

Another doubt I have is about what A.I. can see: I had the sensation they can see at kilometers of distance... Yesterday I was fleeing at very low altitude (finished ammo) but a couple mig from 2000 meters of altitude and 5/10 km of distance tried to chase me, pretty strange... In other cases it seems also they can see through clouds.

I think understand these things can help a lot in the offline gameplay mode, for instance, if I know A.I. planes can see through clouds I will avoid to elude them through clouds.

At the same mode, if is impossible to give detailed commands to my A.I. wingman, or he is unable to accomplish them, I will say the whole squadron to attack fighters paying more attention at my six because I'm uncovered.

By the way the career mode is a fantastic work, for me was very hard to fly before but now, for my taste, the simulation is more complete, thanks a lot!

In SP Career, wingmen commands are universal - ask them to cover you and they all will try to cover you, etc.

Also note you have to be the flight leader to be able to issue commands.

Yes much of what you point out is current weaknesses in the AI structure. They have been improved over time and I am sure will continue to be improved.

TBH I think the best way to understand the AI's quirks is to start your career at the lowest rank, so that you will not be the flight leader, at least not for a long time. Then you can tag along and watch how they behave, and cover them rather than have them covering you.  As long as you are able to stay reasonably close to your flight (ie you can see them without too much trouble) they may attack any enemies that bother you.  I like to do this when I have not flown SP missions for quite a while.

If you have trouble following the moves of the flight leader, for instance, the AI will probably have trouble following you when you lead, so you can learn a lot by being a wingman.   On the visibility: if you can see enemy aircraft at upto 7-8km there is no reason why the AI should not be potentially able to see you.  Not sure about the cloud issue: I just stay well away from it as far as possible.
