USAMiguelLara Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Quick question: Are we going to be able or be allowed to make custom 3d objects (static and damage models)? I do 3d modeling/texturing/animation and I would love to do some work for custom ground models so Mission builders and Mod makers could use them. Probably too early to talk about it, and I think ROF allows it, but I was just wondering if that would be the case in BOS. Thank you.
Rama Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Yes, RoF allows to do it, there's a SDK to import the objects in game. There's actually at least one russian team working on a map, which are producing 3D buildings for the game. For the moment, they're using RoF editor to do it, but the final goal is to import them into BoS. So the answer to your question is an almost certain "yes".
LordNeuro*Srb* Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 MXMiguelLara and you can visit the RoF forum and see what they are doing, and maybe give help if you have the skill. It would be a nice practice for you and great help for RoF moders. S
Feathered_IV Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Looking forward to a Mods-on mode for new objects and tweaking others. I'm keen to repaint the ruined buildings inside the city so they don't look so out of place against the landscape textures. The airfield textures need some signs of battle too, and the poorly textured kickplates in the 109 cockpit could do with replacing too.
USAMiguelLara Posted January 19, 2014 Author Posted January 19, 2014 Well, at my job I work with 3d visualizations for interiors and furniture, which has nothing to do with flight simulators/aircrafts, but I am hoping that I can translate my skills to contribute to the modding community. I am already studying a few tutorials on different kind of modeling so I can start sharpening my skills in low poly and organic/hard surfaces. I will check ROF forum for sure, so I can start getting the hang of poly counts, needed plugins and what not. Nothing outstanding but these are some of my latest project following some tutos. 1
LordNeuro*Srb* Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Wow wery nice work. Well i think u r doing gr8 stuff and rof community would be happy to have u. Skoshi_Tiger Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 I got all enthusiastic about mods but quickly found out that the RoF SDK plugin only supports 3DSMax 8. So far as I know it hasn't been updated to the newer versions of the modeling tool. I hope when they have the resources and time they will update the SDK. But mods for BoS are a long way off and there are way more important development tasks to do right now.

Since I use Max 2009 I eagerly wait for the possibility to import some of my railway models, these for example: 5

Trains are so poorly done in that game, however if only trains get modded the whole city looks out of place then. Can't wait for some new textures from Feathered. But I think the problem will be that the house textures are very low res in general so I don't expect too much besides a bit more love to make the houses look more standing IN scenery rather than ON it. 1

Maybe you can go through a format that can be imported into 3ds max 8 (.obj, i don't know if animation are imported correctly). I use this format to export from Blender to 3ds max 8. If you want some info do not hesitate. I would like to see your beautiful models too in BOS and at the same time in ROF. Your second screens is a North British Locomotive 140 C (french ALVF or SNCF) ? Thanks Genius

The second screen displays a german BR 55 (ex G8.1) steamer. Many of them have been transferred to france after WW1 due to reparation. I've built such a french custom version (called SNCF 040D) as you can see here: http://fooblog.mexxoft.com/mehrzwecklok-040d-der-sncf/
