Sloaks Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 Hi guys, sorry if this has been brought up before but has there been any news on a Steam release for BOS yet?
Emgy Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 Jason said they haven't made a decision on it. I wouldn't hold out and wait for a steam release.
dburne Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 They eventually released ROF on Steam, it would not surprise me for them to do so with BOS, though maybe not early on. I personally have no desire to run it through Steam, though I understand there are many that would prefer to do so.
SimFreak Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 That's a lot of clients not to release to....
Finkeren Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 That's a lot of clients not to release to.... I'm a Steam user, but I don't think I know a single person who exclusively buys games through Steam, so your statement really doesn't make much sense.
BeastyBaiter Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Most of my games are through steam these days but it's worth noting that only half of them were actually bought there. Others were bought elsewhere and simply require a steam log in as part of the copy protection scheme. To me they are just another retailer, little different from amazon. The only real difference is that they also double up as a relatively non-intrusive copy protection system. Since BoS and RoF already have their own steam like log in system, having steam hop on too serves no purpose from that standpoint. Steam is probably the biggest video game retailer in the world, so from a marketing standpoint it might make sense to do business with them. But that would depend on how big their share of the sales is. I worked at a hotel for a few years and I remember us dropping expedia because they were charging us 50% of the room cost. It was more profitable to simply rent less rooms.
siipperi Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 I don't see point why not putting game on the biggest digital distributor. Lots of potential people are missing this game if that doesn't happen. In fact I believe majority of people buy most of their games from the Steam, because of nice sales. 1
Wolger Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 I heard Steam will take away one third of your profits. But I think it's worth the exposure. 90% of my games were bought from Steam.
