Plane flies for 2 seconds and Crash to Desktop

Purchased the game when the Summer Sale started.  Installed, started, no activation key presented as happens with some games when straight into the game, went with Instant Action, game starts with me in an aircraft, 2-5 seconds later Crash to Desktop.  No message, nothing.

 

Go to Steam Library, Right Click on IL-2, Properties, Local Files, Verify Integrity of Game Files and get a result of "1 file failed to validate and will be reacquired". Close.  Try the game again and the exact same thing happens.  Have tried five times, game will not play.  Reboot computer and restarted Steam, game will not play.

 

Repeat, no Activation Key was offered or asked for.  

 

Need Help, want to play this game.

Hop over to the Windows Event Viewer. You should see under Windows > Event Logs something that shows what happened with the crash to desktop. It might reveal some clues as to what is happening and why.

 

I don't have Steam with IL-2 so I don't know what the 1 file failed to validate thing is. Maybe someone with Steam can enlighten?
