II./JG27_Rich Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 One hundred years ago World War One began I would have thought there would have been a movie or two about it.
DD_bongodriver Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 give it 2 more years for when it started for the US and we might.
DD_fruitbat Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 (edited) umm, there's a few films around.... heres one for a start, http://youtu.be/NW_QjdAiI3k Edited January 18, 2014 by fruitbat
siipperi Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 Bah I don't want to see horrible hollywood movies. Make something like band of brothers mini serie with proper budget that goes deep inside of horrors of war, every day surviving etc. I don't want to see movie just because of violence and hollywood violence.
Rjel Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 give it 2 more years for when it started for the US and we might. Likely not. Maybe something made in China. Or Bollywood. There are some real classics coming from both.
Rama Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 There were some very good movies with WW1 background, Some of them left were impressives (at least to me), Like "Johny got his gun", or "Captain Conan" or "The Trench" (and many others). One of the last I saw was "Beneath Hill 60".
DD_bongodriver Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 I haven't seen it yet but there was a movie quite recently called war horse

Try ANZACS very good Australian TV series about WW1 1
DD_Arthur Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 I haven't seen it yet but there was a movie quite recently called war horse I saw that at my local......er, supermarket recently.
Tycoon Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 War horse actually portrays ww1 quite well but it's a lot more about the horse, with almost a broadway style touch, Joey! Lol
Finkeren Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 I think most war movie buffs despise it, but I actually enjoyed Joyeux Noël. I thought it was a fine and kinda uplifting movie in a sad way. 1
siipperi Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Try ANZACS very good Australian TV series about WW1 I must check that out. Thanks for the heads up!

II./JG27_Rich Posted January 20, 2014 Author Posted January 20, 2014 (edited) Anytime I bring up the subject of a War movie Hollywood is the last place I think of. England or Germany is what I have in mind most of the time. Hollywood is too black & white. Download Secret Army and watch that. It was thought up by an English Fighter pilot. It's all about the underground in Belgium in WWII. They'res a lot of grey in that series Edited January 20, 2014 by II./JG27_Rich
Skoshi_Tiger Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Beneath Hill 60 was fairly good. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1418646/?ref_=nv_sr_3 1

Feathered_IV Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Peter Jackson needs to stop all that dog bothering dam buster stuff and get onto a remake of The Blue Max with a those WW1 kites of his. It's got all the lust, betrayal and shoot em in the face action to satisfy any audience. Only problem with it though, you can built a fleet of World War One aircraft, but how on earth can you replace Ursula Andress? 2
Nage Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 (edited) BBC is producing the whole bunch of documentaries and series for centenary. Anyways, the movies: Joyeux Noël Passchendaele A Very Long Engagement Beneath Hill 60 War Horse and hollywood "style": Flyboys (US) Red Baron (GER) Edited January 20, 2014 by tikvic
I/JG27_Rollo Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 "All quiet on the western front" should also qualify shouldn't it?
Nage Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 "All quiet on the western front" should also qualify shouldn't it? I think he was looking for more recent ones.
Freycinet Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 WWI movies don't get much better than Kubrick's Paths of Glory: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paths_of_Glory
Finkeren Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 I also thought "Regeneration" was something of a good movie. But it's hard to sell as a true war movie, since there is less depiction of the war in it, than there is in" Born on the Fourth of July".
79_vRAF_Friendly_flyer Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 There's a 2002 Great War horror film called Deathwatch. I'm lead to believe it's not particularly good, but it does have Andy Serkis (Gollum) in it:
Rama Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 My favourites WWI movies still are: Johnny got his gun, Captain Conan and The Officer's Ward Somme classics are: - Vier von der Infanterie - Les croix de bois - Verdun, visions d'histoire - La Grande Illusion But there are a lot more good ones.
Hatchpk Posted September 14, 2018 Posted September 14, 2018 (edited) my favorites are: J’accuse, Wings, Gallipoli, Paths of Glory [edited] Edited September 19, 2018 by SYN_Haashashin
Finkeren Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 And the award for Oldest Necro-Thread Raised From The Grave goes to... 1
SYN_Mike77 Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 Well we are approaching the end of the centennial. Has their been anything of note on the Great War?

HBPencil Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 The Aussies made a great tv mini series for the Anzac centenary called 'Gallipoli' if you're looking for a Band-of-Brothers style: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3577058/
ShamrockOneFive Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 WWI movie? I saw one last year ...
HagarTheHorrible Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 Journeys End. Available to stream, just watch it. It's really very good.
