What is this Remote Contactor on the Spitfire Mk.IX?

Hello guys, I was wondering what is this instrument and how it works. Couldn't find info on the internet

Is this some kind of IFF? Homing indicator?

The Pip-Squeak system doesn't provide navigation information to the pilot. It was used so those on the ground could track you. What are you expecting it to do?
