The Devs said they made a number of changes that they were not ready to officially discuss. What are u seeing?

I haven't seen anything new for now, but I'm hearing new beautiful engine sounds.

I think the AA is working now. Although when I flew through the tall smoke over Stalingrad, at certain angles the plane was very jagged in appearance. The smoke and flames coming off the LaGGs seems better to me as does the explosion when they hit the ground. The heat effect from the flames looks very cool. I'm not sure how new any off those effects might be. I think the sounds of the 109 during flyby have been tweaked.

There's explosions on the ground around the target area, possibly ground fire though I might have imagined that. I noted a pall of smoke hanging over the settlement at the south of Stalingrad. These things seemed new, minor though they are.

In Bf 109 F-4 cockpit, the texture of the chain actuating the tail trim is fixed. (I don't remember if it was before?)

You're not imagining these, I heard a few small booms while flying too low over buildings to feel safe to look for their source.

Runways now look like runways from a distance now, even if low res, rather than the jagged mess they were before.

The slow loading of the plane's skin textures when switching external cams were fixed. But still persists in the main menu. Non-issue which can fixed easily.

Just noticed...and perhaps it is not new....when a vehicle is destroyed....when looking at the flames....there is a wavy pattern to the air...as you look through the flames.....as in reality....the heat....bends the light rays.

 

This is unexpected and breaks new ground as far as I can see.

After doing some performance tests and going high speeds diving and climbing suddenly my engine started to die and I had a smokke trail. Was on the free flight without enemies....

 

An other thing happened when I was touching something with my belly.... The engine starts stuttering and died. Really nicely modelled..

 

So I guess they added the engine models but not the manual engine management.

 

Could anyone confirm, please?

The elevator on the 109 stiffens up at 500km/h instead of 700km/h. The wheel brakes on the LaGG-3 cause it to want to nose over unless compensated for. Before you could stand on them without even the slightest tendency to do this. It could just be the different runway however. I'm also getting fewer stutters for explosions and hits on aircraft in general. Previously the first of each type of explosion in a mission would cause a stutter, that is not the case on any detail setting for me now. The skin/cockpit texture loading is also much quicker and it seems the cockpit is never unloaded now. New engine smoke is also present after smashing it into the ground. That's all I've noticed so far.

I went sight seeing and had some texture flickering and some very low frame rates when scenery was loading, I think -- normally it is fine but every now and again my frame rate is a decimal number for a few seconds.

 

I took a tour of Central Stalingrad and saw Red Square (with a memorial pillar in it?  I don't know what that is) and across the street was the Univermag Department Store and just down that street towards the rail road sorting yard there is the Nail Factory and is that Bamaley Fountain just across the street from there?  Gorki Theater stands out in the same area.

 

Then I flew to the other end of the sorting yard and found the 9th of January Square, and Pavlov's House stood out.

 

I tried to make a landing there, although I was in the 109 and I knew Pavlov would not be pleased, but got hung up in a building on short final and that probably pleased him more.

 

Like a tourist, I took pictures but they seem to be going into a different directory because I couldn't find them.

Might just be me, but the explosions from bombs seem to be a bit more enhanced, not in their effect, but from their visual.

Also shadows seem better, more realistic with less system hit.

Ground targets seem harder to pick out, tanks in particular don't have the dots which did make them easier to spot at range.

Distance hazing seems different as well, the smoke stacks from stalingrad have a great hazing.

That's the Square of the Fallen Warriors (and the memorial to the same) that commemorates those who died "liberating" Stalingrad (Tsaritsyn) for the Reds in the Civil War.

Thank you - I had only heard it called Red Square.

 

So that circular depression past the Nail Factory does look like it should be the famous fountain.

I'm impressed with it.

 

It's still WiP so there are a few things that need addressing and they've made some compromises like having flat areas for the buildings to sit on where there are actually slopes but that's normal. Very impressed overall with the height map - the Don at Kalach for example looks exactly right! I think Gumrak and Pitomnik need to be a bit more extensive. But it's still being built and populated so we'll see.

 

The feeling of the city itself is good, very good. You can tell where you are and see several buildings that still exist and provide orientation. The southern end of town has a lot of Tsarist era red brick buildings that would provide a bit of variety. I do like so much of the city and the big drop towards the river.

 

Overall the main focus of this map isn't actually Stalingrad but the Don Bend towards Kalach and the Operation Uranus advance. That's where we'll be proving ground support etc then later in the West with Wintergewitter. Not sure exactly how we'll be navigating at 30m alt in a Sturmovik though. Very realistic.

 

So 8/10 at the moment and I'm sure it will be 9.5 out of 10 by the release.

I think the flames during the startup is different. The glow doesn't shine into the cockpit anymore. Maybe it has been like this earlier but it is new to me.

Gear has now a damage model. when lowering the gear at too high speeds it wont fully deploy and gets stuck

 

Also the 109 handles much harder at higher speeds! 

 

Good worl Devs! Now fix the damn ruder and pitch and everything will be good :D

Older recorded tracks no longer load. Not a huge deal at this point but I hate to lose the ability to play back older tracks. Also for the first time I've noticed parachuting pilots sink through what I think are frozen rivers when they hit. Has it always been so?

Yea if they ever fix pitch and rudder it would make real difference

 

But i really doubt about it

Only thing i noticed beside the regression of my graphics and image quality (even ultra) is the new smoke coming from engine when i crash my plane  :)

The Stalingrad map is flickering horizontally for me, but tha map when flying is OK. Amazingly I have fps no less  than 35 although there is all this smoke! Going to try the ultra settings!

Someone realized a change in damage model? 

 

Until last patch enemy hits caused same damage: broken gauges and windshield every time, no matter i have been hit from the back or front. Just flown the first dogfight mission on stalingrad map, enemy shot off a part of my elevator, which affected noticeable the controls.

Both the LaGG and the 109 appear to bleed of speed when reducing throttle quicker than before???

 I think the reflections on the planes are a bit more refined now, maybe lighting changes or an effect of the presets? Could be placebo effects what I see, but not minding it :)

They also get rid of the flames lighting inside cockpit at engine start.

Good thing!

I don't think flames could be seen through all gauges holes in RL.

Machine gun sounds seems to be out of sync (with flame effect), not sure if new thing.

I experienced a great improvement of the ForceFeedback while in the air (and probably a small regression in the FFB while on the ground :P ).

I also noticed an overall improvement of the flight model (or the controls, or maybe it was just me) on both aeroplanes, no more weird sensations on air, for me.

 

The only noticeable regression is the blurred cockpit: I experienced it only with non-ultra SSAO, and now even with graphics on Ultra I have it. Not a big deal, since it's an alpha.

+1 noticed the same thing. looks like a problem when particle objects mix with 3d plane. All of a sudden jaggies, millions of them! :o:
