Customizable Airmen (please read)

So, for a while now iv been thinking of us being able to choose how our airmen look. Now, before you rip on me I am not saying colors, mask, helmet etc. I am talking true authentic clothing for specific aircraft. For example how you had the Type B helmet and type D mask with the mk ivb goggles for the spitfire. The only option would be to change from the default character that we have, to the one i just made an example for (or perhaps just force the change...make a vote). I truly think this would add more immersion to the game. I know there are a lot of planes (some using the same outfits) but it would be something to be implemented over time. I never played much of the old Il2's, as i started with BOS, but i know Cliffs of Dover included it (atleast with the specific example i mentioned). Anyway, what is your guys's thoughts on this? haven't played this game for quite a few months as I am currently spending 5k on a new PC setup.

I am looking forward to roaring the skies again soon though. Thanks again for taking the time to read this. Have a good day everyone :)

Hardly a priority, in my opinion. How often are you looking at a pilot close enough to be able to see what sort of goggles he's wearing?

Thanks for the reply. I know its not a priority, but like others, including myself, we like knowing what our character looks like, even though we hardly see them. It would be like me creating an ugly character in fallout but wearing armor. I know hes ugly underneath and i cant shake the fact he looks like a nob. Not saying the current models are terrible, but they are not authentic. Anyway, that's my reasoning, no point of further explaining. Thanks again for the reply Andy!

Commonwealth and USAAF pilots are in the works. Just as the Japanese pilots and US navy pilots will be when we eventualy head to the pacific

I’m all for customizing...  just little things here and there that make it you and your plane..

In rise of flight, I loved to have my red checkered banners and red scarf.

In CLoD, I have a custom pin-up of my late pup. Still smile every time I see it :)

For BoX, The official paints they have are pretty cool, I stick to specific ones for each aircraft, but that’s pretty much it...

wishing for more options in the future

As are late-war German pilots.

Correct pilot attire is a must... I know you don't see yourself when you are flying, but when it comes to screen shots and movie making etc  it's pretty important if you are trying to portray something historical...

Its an oldie and I know it had been mentioned before (and may at some point happen) but I'd like to see oxygen masks introduced for pilots and crew. While I'm going over old ground, hopefully we will get some female Soviet pilots when the Po-2 is released.

I`d love the ability to customise my pilot`s look and clothing... just as long as it stays in the parameters of WW2 history. The problem with this is, as i`v seen in other games, it becomes really silly and blows open the gates for completely disengenuous and unrealistic stuff.

So, be careful what you wish for.

As an immersion thing, the idea is good (for any other reason it wouldn't be IMO, but immersion is an important factor in any game).

Still ... il21946 had this, wasnt it? You could use real life pictures as texture for the in-game heads. My opinion? It just looked creepy. Execution left a lot to be desired, good as the idea might have been.

I want a combination RPG flight sim.  On the ground you walk the base, visit the local bar, try to pick up girls, drink, etc ... then you fly.  Run to your plane, cut scene as you get in, transition to cockpit ... fly.

OK, so that's a little more than a customized uniform, but hey, it doesn't hurt to think out loud.

The oxygen mask thing is listed as a planned improvement in the BoBp dev announcement so it’s coming.

But so what? Why should anyone care what someone else does with his game?

I could explain, but clearly your attitude means that would be pointless.

I haven't an attitude. I'd like to know why it should matter to you or anyone else if I want to dress up my pilot in any fashion I choose? Or paint my plane a bright pink as has long been a standing joke in the IL-2 world? As we know, few custom paint schemes are ever seen by anyone other than the pilot flying it. The same likely will be true of pilot personas. So my question remains, why should it matter to anyone other than that flier how he decides to use his game?

It would be nice to have a pilot customization section when modifying a plane. The drab  looking pilot place holders have been here for far to long. I dont see to many resources going into spending abit of time to allow players to select clothing attire.

Yes, because it's a combat flight simulator and not some sort of clone of The Sims.

why do you act as though this is a feat of god to accomplish?

Customizable pilots would be a waste of time to implement when that time could be spent working on new aircraft or fixing bugs.

Exactly, it's all about what's the most efficient use of the team's time. Playing dressup with your pilot isn't one of those things, at least for the time being.

Its been over four years and they're still using a placeholder. It wouldn't be asking much to start a side project.   Everyone already knows bug fixing and multiplayer netcode issues have been long put to the wayside.

I bet the devs are extremely busy and have to pick and choose what they work on.  A pointless side project with little to no potential revenue gain would only add to their pile of work and result in less getting done.  Which means we have to wait longer for SPAD's, P-47's, Dora's, and K4's just so people can use their pilot as Ken doll.

Or better yet, open the pilot look to modders.  If how your pilot looks is a big deal to you, get in there and do your bit.  If you could not care less (my own view) then meh, it's no skin off your nose!  (pun intended)

Where on earth did you read that the pilot models are placeholders?

Salutations LukeFF. I agree absolutely. If one wants to play dress up... find another game.
