Pict Posted June 18, 2018 Posted June 18, 2018 (edited) 42 is that not supposed to be the answer to everything...or something like that 1942 as it pretty much was all happening everywhere and the outcome was far from evident... A few reasons off the top of the head... Massive air battle over Dieppe (epicenter, battle covered a large area) in 42, involved Spit 5's & 9's vs 109F's & 190A's, a battle which by all accounts the Luftwaffe won decisively. Canadian fighter ace George Beurling, shot down 27 Axis aircraft in just 14 days over the skies of Malta during the summer of 1942. Avimimus Posted June 26, 2018 Posted June 26, 2018 I like 1940-1941. The reason? Cannons are rare and lower velocity, wing-loadings are also lower - this means longer more intricate manoeuvring fights. 1
Bremspropeller Posted July 2, 2018 Posted July 2, 2018 I voted 42 - more like 42-43, but that wasn't an option. Basicly due to all the early c@ap-planes still being around somewhere (on some god-forsaken, mosquito infested swampy Island) and the new , über-kids on the block gradually coming in.
Spacesheep Posted July 28, 2018 Posted July 28, 2018 1940 and the upper mentionned arguments fits to me. aircrafts bases were all there and variety in performance too! this imply a more wide range of tactics and aproaches for both air combat and ground area. and well.... how to say no to dewoitine D520, moranes and hawks or early spit and huricane add to that the tragic and earthshaking global situation of the period,.... definitely early to mid war has my pref.
