DetCord12B Posted June 11, 2018 Posted June 11, 2018 I almost picked it up. While most of the reviews are good to mediocre, the repeated impression across most of them is that it quickly becomes boring and tedious. FD is known for their amazing artists. They honestly have some of the best in the business when it comes to visual and sound design. What they can’t seem to do is create a game which isn’t a vacuous, tedious (Elite Dangerous) mess. RPS snip. Quote Jurassic World Evolution is the most boring of all possible outcomes for a dinosaur theme park sim. There’s no outlet for creativity and, aside from the prehistoric pals you might make, managing the parks just isn’t a lot of fun. By the time I’d unlocked enough to make the sandbox mode live up to its name, I realised I had nothing left to build. It’s a greater disappointment because it falls so short of Planet Coaster. Frontier has already made the game that shows Evolution where it went wrong. It’s not that Evolution couldn’t have forged its own path, but it throws away lots of proven systems, often without substituting them for anything else. I don’t want to bad-mouth cool dinosaurs, but cool dinosaurs can only carry a game so far. Bummer. I was really looking forward to it. Guess I'll wait for a sale.
TheBlackPenguin Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 It will be out tomorrow, I suspect those who like dino's will overlook the shortcomings and enjoy it, I'm looking forward to it. It won't be perfect, but hopefully FD will be able to improve the PC game over time, that's my only real concern, that they're hindered too much by the license itself and by trying to keep consoles and PC's synced. As or Elite, it's fun, but I've seen Reddit pick on the head designer a lot, what is also quite sad is the amount of good ideas they seem to have ignored in the DDF...Anyway, going off-topic. Maybe wait for a sale for JP:Evo, perhaps some of the issues will be addressed and it's not like we don't have a ton of games to play :). 1

I love the concept and the source material, but it seems they just didn't flesh out the gameplay, mechanics and management aspects enough. Maybe they'll patch it. Though it's rare to see a game change from what it is at launch to what they'd like to be. A really good, in-depth and unbiased review: Edited June 12, 2018 by DetCord12B
Wolf8312 Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 I wasnt expecting much to be honest. These are really exactly the kind of games that get hyped so much, and look so fantastic that the devs have made most of their cash already before the game is even released. What I had hoped is that it would be a case of storms knocking out your power and dinosaurs escaping, or rather a multitude of problems just like this one, that would lead to other situations in which the dinos escape all the time and kill everyone, with it perhaps being your job to then rescue your peeps or something. Maybe I'm wrong, but the gameplay just doesent seem very thrilling. It seems like you're just building a park to admire your own pretty creations and watch the dinos stomp around and eat each other a bit. It also sounds like the game is very easy, which probably means poor AI and a lack of challenging gameplay. Pass for me, even on sale!
TheBlackPenguin Posted June 14, 2018 Posted June 14, 2018 Really enjoying it so far, 6 hrs in. Yes it could be fleshed out on the management side, more flying creatures etc. Honestly, unless you like dinosaurs and really want to unlock and admire just for that perhaps wait until its more fleshed out, it has a lot of potential and it is fixable...If Universal allow it.

Well I kinda understand why there's no flying dino's as they would by default have already escaped. Although I would be all for sticking them in cages?!

Don't get me wrong - I really wish the instinct to "do one" and never return was strong in them - that way their descendants, in particular the 20 odd homing pigeons kept by my close neighbour would not circle the house like some deranged sh1t bombing stuka staffel every damn day. can you house train homing pigeons? - these are important questions....

I just dont think many people would want to go to a park if they knew there were flying dinosaus around! Even if they were cheerful plant eaters, they would still be dangerous probably. In short I know the missus wouldn't want to go, and I wouldnt risk taking the ankle biter!
