High Dynamic Range (HDR) is a name applied to several different technologies. The setting in Il-2 is related to HDR rendering. This uses special lighting calculations to preserve more details when rendering really bright and really dark areas. The effect is visible on any monitor.

This is distinct from the various HDR video formats supported by certain monitors. These allow compatible content to be displayed with a greater dynamic range. They are unsupported by Il-2.

However, a HDR monitor will probably be a high-quality display that will give good image quality even if the special technology isn't active.

Thanks. I wasn’t sure BOX would take advantage of the technology or not. Appreciate the clarification.

S!

Check on the Guru3D site. The HDR monitors have issues with colors at 120Hz and above. Something about color compression etc.
