"This is B for baker our starboard outer engine has been hit" , what the hell, looked like the port side inner engine to me. If they cant get basics like this under control I'm a little skeptical of how accurate the finished product will be.:o:

Formation flying at night?

Er.....yeah.......:mda:

I don't think they even parked them that close to one another let alone flew em like that nad I'm not sure the shared glance between the Flight Engineer (hmm probably Co-pilot in this film) and Pilot would have been possible either in anything but the BBMF lanc.

I think in under three minutes of promo to have so many glaring errors bodes not good at all. Another mundane "human drama" set in wartime that ignores the true human dramas (albeit without love interests or personality clashes) occurring every night.

Still ill enjoy it more than Jackson's Dambusters remake....

Yes, I thought that too...

You just can't fly in that kind of formation at night. RAF bombers made their own way to the target in the 'bomber stream'...

They took off at intervals so that there would be less chance of collision as they made their way to target.

Don't think I'll bother with this one.

I'm not a film expert but I've seen a lot of people on sim pages make similar comments about "love interests or personality clashes" in films, whether they're aviation based or otherwise. If those scenes are done clumsily then they certainly do distract from the story. But without any personal interactions the movie become little more than an exhibition of special effects. Far too many films are ruined that way. I walk away from most films today mind numb from constant car chases, explosions and the like. Modern day films don't really tell a story the way they once did, drawing you in with its story and character development. Maybe it is the influence of modern society causing us to lack the attention span to sit though a two hour film.

To contrast two films I think most here watch and enjoy, sit down and look at how Twelve O'clock High and Battle of Britain tell similar stories. While there isn't any love interest in the Twelve O'clock High film (there was in the book) there are personal interaction galore, handled in a way that they add believably to the characters so that the viewer cares about them and their fates. I don't get that feel from Battle of Britain. Most of the character interactions feel forced, almost cartoonish as if they are thrown into the film simply to break up the aviation scenes. With the star power in that film it could've been, should've been an epic.

Without any story telling that includes personal interactions, you're left with little more than airplanes zooming around. At that point I'd rather watch a documentary.

We are all different... me, as far as I'm concerned, the Battle of Britain is still the best WWII aviation movie out there. It enthralled me as a lad in the 60's, and it still enthralls me now.

Twelve O'clock High was mentioned, again, another one of the great WWII films... I'd put Tora, Tora, Tora, as one of my all time favourites too.

You just can't get the same kind of captivating entertainment from these more modern films... it's as if they have lost the art completely.

I agree with Tora, Tora, Tora. One of the best docudramas ever made. I thought it presented its history equally from both side, probably because it was produced and directed from both sides. I thought it followed history pretty well.

Late in the war, when the ”GH” navigation aid was in use, they actually formed up in 3-element V-formations, 2 following the leader with GH. This is mentioned in Kevin Wilsons ”Journey’s end”, one of his excellent books about Bomber Command from 1943-1945..3 Groups was equipped with GH in October 1944.

I think you mean '3 Group' Bomber command,  which was equipped with Gee-H and during the closing months of the war occasionally flew in a 3 element, v formation in daylight with fighter escort.
