Blitzen Posted June 7, 2018 Posted June 7, 2018 (edited) Has anyone flown enough missions in career flying one of the bombers ( esp Ju-87,Ju-88, or A-20) in the Kuban ( where there are a lot of shipping targets could be made available) to find out if sprinkled in the obvious targets to targets inland, there are anti shipping targets as well. I’d like to try a bomber campaign career in the Kuban along with the various fighter pilot careers, but not if all those future missions are to far off targets requiring a lot of “auto pilot” time. The upcoming Gambit 21's A-20 scripted campaign does feature a little of both, but it would be great to have Stukas or Ju-88’s having a wack at Russian shipping, wouldn’t it?? sevenless Posted June 7, 2018 Posted June 7, 2018 (edited) Haven´t flown them, but I guess Ju-87 G1 (37mm) anti-ship strikes would (could) be fun. Maybe they integrate that into the next update? Career mode has so much potential, I hope they invest dev time into this gem. Another idea (I know, might be crazy) would be to open up career mode to 3rd party additions, so that additional "unit strings" could be integrated there? Edited June 7, 2018 by sevenless
Feathered_IV Posted June 7, 2018 Posted June 7, 2018 I think I recall one of the devs saying that anti-shipping missions were difficult to program and will not be featured. I hope that isn’t the case though.

I thought Kuban was supposed to be a testbed? seems like they should try and work it out.
Gambit21 Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 When I'm finished with the A-20 campaign (and it's getting very close) I'm going to make an endlessly variable/randomized anti-shipping mission. Randomized targets, randomized enemies, friendlies, vehicles, escorts...it won't play out the exact same way no matter how many times you fly it. Basically an entire campaign in a single re-playable mission file. Not even the same friendly vehicles on base every time. This idea has been simmering in the back of my mind for a while, and I plan on making a very extensive version of this for Bodenplatte (although not anti-shipping for that release) However I'm going to test the proof of concept with Kuban. I'll have an IL2, Pe-2 and A-20 version of the mission. Sometimes the mission will play out as a patrol, other times you'll be vectored to a general area where enemy vessels have been sited. All done with randomized logic trees. That said, as someone familiar with the editor logic, and how this logic is utilized for career missions, I don't see why anti-shipping should pose a problem for the career honestly. There's no difference at all. 1 3

Gambit21 Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 The idea is, even if you happen to get the same targets/location as the last time you booted the mission (unlikely, with say 36 variations) but possible with the random generator) then maybe this time you don't have an escort, maybe you run into 12 109's on patrol where last time you were unchallenged and it becomes about just getting home. etc etc. In theory I can make every single campaign mission like this and create and endlessly replayable scripted campaign, but it would take much too long (already does take almost too long to make the endeavor a rational persuit) and testing would be impossible. Not to mention I cant' control the player experience if I add randomized logic in the campaign. 1
pilotpierre Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 Sounds like just what the doctor ordered Gambit, well done and Mercury bow coops.
Feathered_IV Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 Thank you Gambit. That is exactly what I’ve wished for for so many years. I always thought it would have been a fantastic approach for Rise of Flight and a great basis for a career mode. Finally seeing someone else thinking along the same lines makes my little sim heart sing. :D
Porkins Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 I know I had an anti shipping mission, I think while flying a 110. The mission had me attacking ships at night.

At first it was for a Hs 129 CO-OP during the drive across the Don River. CO-OP or singleplayer I think it's a good idea. 1
PatrickAWlson Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 Not sure why they would be difficult as they are just another target. Put ships in the water and make them move. Put airplanes above them and make them attack the ships. I did one test with Stukas attacking ships and it went great - no different than attacking any other target. Something that would be fun is getting into the middle of a sea battle. 1
