taffy2jeffmorgan Posted June 7, 2018 Posted June 7, 2018 Hi All, I have noticed recently that since the last upgrade attacking ships in single player missions is almost suicidal, the defending AAA is so accurate, and no matter which plane and loadout i choose it is impossible to make a single pass without being brought down or forced to bail out. Before the upgrade there was a chance of sinking all the ships both with gunfire and bombs and taking some damage, So does anyone fancy their chances, if you succeed post you results, i for one would like to know how you did it. Good luck !
pilotpierre Posted June 7, 2018 Posted June 7, 2018 (edited) I gave up on these as mission impossibles Taffy. Edited June 7, 2018 by pilotpierre
CrazyDuck Posted June 7, 2018 Posted June 7, 2018 How about "drag'n'bag" (sort of)? The first plane to enter the flak range maneouvers away from the ships and "drags" the flak flak fire (hopefully) and thus buys a couple of seconds for the rest of the team to strike.
Finkeren Posted June 7, 2018 Posted June 7, 2018 Basically you don't attack ships alone. Patrol craft, submarines and small river boats, you might get away with, if you're lucky, but the larger vessels are so well armed, that a single attacking plane is just doomed. I haven't noticed any difference in that department with the latest update - to me it has always been like this.
taffy2jeffmorgan Posted June 8, 2018 Author Posted June 8, 2018 Well after a lot of trial and error i'v gone from 0 to 100% and all done from altitude and without the bomb aimer scope, A20/ 20 x fab-100 + 4 x fab 250 [ wing mounted ] Line up the four ships in turn and straddled with the full load from about 1,800-to-2,000 feet [ got both u boat and gun boat in a single pass ] I suppose in the real world it was always safer from altitude but with less chance of a hit ? Good luck
Finkeren Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 Yes obviously, from an altitude where you’re safe from the larger autocannon you can absolutely bomb with a single aircraft in level bombing. With some training you can even learn to account for the movement of the ship (good luck hitting one of those miniature Soviet torpedo boats that go 100km/h though) However, simply lining up the ships and dropping bombs without the sight is really only gonna work in the closed environment of QMB with no wind. Under all other circumstances you’ll need the sight and the weather reports.
