BeastyBaiter Posted June 6, 2018 Posted June 6, 2018 Intel announced a 28 core Skylake X part able to hit 5GHz with sub-ambient cooling and probably delidded. AMD announced their Threadripper 2 line with a 32 core, 64 thread CPU at the top. Also strongly suggested is that it will clock higher than the Ryzen 7 2700x. Interview here: Intel details:
=362nd_FS=Hiromachi Posted June 6, 2018 Posted June 6, 2018 First Threadripper used to reach 4.2 - 4.3 Ghz since those were top 5 % of ryzen cores. Seeing as in practice you can OC 2700X to 4.25 to 4.3 on all 8 cores, I expect Threadripper 2 to reach about 4.4 - 4.5 Ghz. Point is that those 32 cores for HEDT look really amazing, if someone needs it. Only shame that even quad cores with current engine cant be properly utilized in Il-2.
NETSCAPE Posted June 6, 2018 Posted June 6, 2018 9,000,000 cores don't matter unless the software you're using for work or research is actually utilizing them. More cores does nothing for gamers.
=362nd_FS=Hiromachi Posted June 6, 2018 Posted June 6, 2018 Well, it does if software (game) is capable of taking advantage of that. And most of them since 2016 are capable of using more than four or even six cores. Beyond that not much can be gained, at least basing on current software. But industry is clearly moving in that direction. The above 28 - 32 core cpus are not for gamers anyway.
