I am trying to recreate some old Il-2 1946 missions.

Missions was made as a COOP.

Players and/or AI AIRSPAWN at a fixed altitude.

I tried to create a basic mission with two aircraft's facing one another. But the both start in the water and never get airborne.

You need to increase the Y value  (altitude) for each plane. Both planes currently start at less than 20m.

Also:

- Change the AI dropdown value for the Spitfire from "Player" to an AI skill level.

- I'm not sure why you have a takeoff command. Try removing it and trigger waypoint id:12 from trigger timer id:9 and object link waypoint id:13 to the Spitfire.

Thanks for your help. It worked! ?

I was not aware that I had to set the aircraft's altitude as well as the waypoint's.

The take-off command was a desperate move as nothing else seemed to work.

I removed the take-off commands as you said and connected the timer to the first waypoint. I don't get the rest. But seems to work perfectly.

Thanks.

I created a simple coop group that you can use in any mission. NOTE: I did not test it, but it should work! (I know... I know, famous last words.)

On the "spitfire team" I broke each behavior into different sections so that you can see how to emulate that behavior in your own Ai. There's behaviors for running out of ammo, getting attacked, what happens when a spitfire gets shot down, how to respawn said spitfire, and how to work with the game mechanics to make a successful or unsuccessful mission ending.

On the "Bf109 team", I added a little bit more complex behaviors including random spawning, and random cocky messages whenever the Ai shoots a spitfire down. When you're ready, jump onto that side to see how I created those behaviors.

Questions? Let me know. The link for the group is below -->

Or you can grab the file here via the IL-2 forums:

Neither downloads work.

It seems that you forgot to add the mission file or the msnbin file ?

It's not a mission. It's a group.?

There's a difference? ?

Yes, a 'slight' difference. :salute:

Ahh. Never seen that before, except for city/bridge/airfield template.

It looks quite fancy/complex.

The old training missions EAF had was for rehearsing one single concept over and over again. So that the trainees and the old farts (like me ?) was able to get it right. Each mission was short with a flight-time between 5- min. Like learning when the Spitfire gunsight was at the convergence setting (200 yards); Why not to shot bombers from a straight six in a slow chase; Gun defense training; Defection training in a high speed bounce.

All of it could still be done in a DF server environment but it took a lot more time to line up.

Anyway. Enough babbling on my part. Thanks for helping me out ?

I tried to add your group to a map and save it as Coop but it wont work.

I never got to: "chose and aircraft menu". It jumped straight into the game but as a spectator.

Was the group intended as eye-candy?

Ahh crap, I know what I did wrong... I made the planes respawn, but that doesn't work in coop. I will fix it tonight, as I'm at work now.

Edit: I have added the new group. This one has been tested. If you have the old group, delete it as it doesn't work.  ?

You have all the standard features of what typical ai fighters do, including:

  • what happens when they run out of ammo,
  • what happens when they get hit,
  • what happens when they die,
  • making them give random cocky messages (like a typical dogfight server) when they make a kill,
  • how to make them fly to a waypoint,
  • and how to attack air targets in the area.

There's also game logic for which side wins. In addition to all that, I added mission timer logic section, some needed icons, and a health bar for the bf109 side.

I tried to label and sort everything as best I could. This group should hopefully get your feet wet, and I recommend adding more than what I've created here. If you have questions let me know.
