A couple of questions

G'day peeps,

I used to spend a lot of time in the original IL-2 Forgotten Battles and IL-2 1946.

After not doing any virtual flying for quite a long time, I decided to make the switch to Rise of Flight when it was released quite a few years ago which I have enjoyed a great deal.

I've have also had this rendition of IL-2 and all of the premium expansion packs for a while now as well, but haven't really had the time to get into it them until now.

I was curious about the Ju-52 as I thought that it was included as flyable in one of the expansion packs (Battle of Kuban?) but have not seen it to select in order to fly it either in campaign or quick mission etc, other than as an enemy target. Does this aircraft need to be purchased separately as a stand alone in order to be able to fly it?

Also, radio communications.

In the original IL-2 you could select radio commands for take-off and landing as well as with your wingmen/squadron etc.

Has this been done away with now? as I can't recall seeing anything similar in the key mapping screen under options.

I'm sure I'll have a lot more questions, the more time I spend on it but these will do for now.

Cheers!

The Ju 52 is a standalone purchase.

As Luke says, the Ju52/3m is a separate purchase that you can pick-up in the store. Sometimes there are sales so if its a must have, get it now, but maybe wait for sale if you're thinking about it.

It is, at the moment, the only transport aircraft in the game and that makes it kind of unique. There's some multiplayer integration on some severs and the single player Career is there too. It's not extensively used but it is a fun addition and I quite enjoy just flying it with no particular mission in mind as well.

There is a radio button... It's so automatic that I can't think of the button right now. It's not very extensively put together but it is there. A lot of radio actions happen automatically at the moment as well. I think we'd all love to see that area revamped at some point as its very basic right now but I'm sure it's not as high up on the list as other items.

On the IL-2 website you should be able to see the contents of the three packages; as well as the "Collectors' Planes",

which are standalones and not in any of the packs.

IL-2 STURMOVIK Website

This sim is not the old IL-2, and so - yeah - many things were changed. Best might be to get into it firstly - you will

soon get to grips with it. Have fun!

Welcome, von_Drinkoften - when you have explored the sim more deeply and still find you have questions, just ask.
There are many helpful guys around the forum.

Whenever I see someone new from New Zealand, I can't resist to ask:
have you ever visited Peter Jackson's "Vintage Aviator" WW1 airfield, or the Wanaka airshow?

IIRC the radio button is this little guy: ~

Just above the left hand tab button.

If you're into Rise of Flight, this will feel natural to you as it has a lot more in common than the old Il-2.

Hi and thanks Wolfram.

I've not had the opportunity to visits PJ's collection unfortunately.

And as for Warbirds over Wanaka... it is something that I'd really like to see, but as yet have not been able to do unfortunately. But one day I'll make it.

You should really go one day - is it far from you? Here is an appetizer - for TVAL, and for "Flying Circus"...

Cheers again guys. :good:

On the subject of collector planes...

Looking through the currently available "collector" plane list it appears that I already own a number of them such as the Spitfire Mk.VB, HS 129 B2 and P-40 etc

Do these aircraft differ from the aircraft included in the "premium" expansion packs or are they the same?

I believe I don't currently own the La5 FN, Bf-109 G6, Yak 1B series 127 and obviously the Ju-52.

The webpage is a bit confusing in that it doesn't specify if any of these "collector" aircraft are already included in the "premium" BOS, BOM or BOK expansions and while I'd like to eventually obtain the complete set, I'd rather not go to expense of purchasing something that I already own.

Thanks in advance if anyone can clarify this.

The "Collector's Planes" can be bought separately, or contained in "Special Edition" (as I understand it).

They are the same aircraft, either way.

I have bought me the Bf 109 G-6 separately. AFAIK, it is not in an "Special Edition" so far.
MAY be they will add it to a "Special Edition" of "Bodenplatte".
But I wanna use it now, in "Battle of Kuban".

Hi again Wolfram,

The Wanaka air show is held in the South Island of NZ every two years. Next one is in 2020? I believe.

Up until now, timing and/or my financial situation have prevented me from making the booking and attending.

I live in the middle of the North Island (Auckland) and so while it's not too far away or difficult to get to... accommodation is always expensive during the weekend it is held unfortunately.

Hopefully the planets will align sooner rather than later and I will be able to attend. ;)

I Just figured it out... after clicking on the cart option to purchase them you get a warning if you already own the content. DOH!

Still, it would be nice to see beforehand if I already own the item like ROF does on it's store page.

That would be a huge help for many players.

Although it's not confirmed by anyone, I suspect that a store or even website revamp will come (possibly in pieces) as the series expands. We've got three new products coming from 1CGS in the next year and a half and so I can see them wanting to make sure that the storefront is in tip top shape for that.
