InProgress Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 This is how it feels to play career anyone having this problem? Getting mission to intercept IL2 on my own territory, HQ sends 4 of us in old E7. Then we must attack these il2, 6 or more of them, then there is 6 or more mig3 coming and if that was not enough, another wave of i16 comes.. all this vs 4 E7. There is more enemy planes than we have ammo. Why enemy always get reinforcements and they never send help for us? Then when all my friends are dead I endp up with 10+ enemies on my tail they ai never retreats when enemy has way bigger numbers or when you take big casualties, fighting till the last man. It's all probably well known already. But there is one thing I noticed today and it never happened before. I had task to escort bombers, and when we joined them, it was at least twice as big group of E7 fighters with bombs. So I had to escort E7 with E7, kind of funny, I was wondering if this is actually realistic. Were fighters with bombs send on mission with fighters to cover them?
Gambit21 Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 Hero of the Reich!!! We really need the “call for additional support” option. It’s so close. Just one little trigger is all they need to add.

Danziger Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 I've been sent on suicide missions like that in my MiG-3 career. All of my comrades killed and me flying as fast as I can at grass top level trying to outrun six F4s back to my base and try to drag them across the AA gunners. 1
Gambit21 Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 The Emil - the 109 begins and ends there for me. Just now, BorysVorobyov said: I've been sent on suicide missions like that in my MiG-3 career. The MiG 3 - gives me that sane wholesome early war feeling as the Emil.
InProgress Posted June 4, 2018 Author Posted June 4, 2018 This bigger battles can be fun but also it's a bit meh when one side losses half of planes and still fighting, or when germans lose ammo for cannons they will keep shooting at pe2 or il2 with mg. And another thing is, germans lose ammo in no times, they go full auto and miss everything, even if enemy is flying in straight line in big attacker. I like idea of asking for support tho, if you see enemy getting new wave of fighters over your objectives to defend, would be cool to ask for some help and they scramble from nearest airfield or simply nearest patrol of anything that doesn't have anything better to do would help you. And I think rearm would be cool as well, sosometimes your airfield is very close to action, or land and switch aircraft to join battle that is still going.

I have used this type of logic in missions before. Pretty Simple.

A lot depends on what settings you choose in the campaign. If you are on Hard, for example, I believe you encounter more craft with better AI. Front-line density also matters. Higher front-line density will have other flights of aircraft in the area. Often in my career, I will see friendly aircraft conducting ground troops covers or escorts on moderate density. So maybe what is happening is one group of soviet planes is covering ground troops in the area, and gets dragged into the fight when you come too close. Or those I-16s were doing an attack mission of their own and tangled with you on the way to their target. Playing a soviet fighter career, I have had a similar situation. I was in an I-16 intercepting some Ju-88s in dense cloud. I counted an escort of 3 Bf-110...we were 4 I-16s. Not unmanageable. But halfway through the fight with the 110s (and me low on ammo) a flight of who knows how many Bf-109F4s came rolling in. I shot one of them down and in the confusion managed to get away. None of the rest of my flight did. I've also been on escort missions where we run afoul of a patrol of 109s halfway to the target, and then on the target there are some more germans covering the troops. I think all this has mostly to do with frontline density. Try adjusting that and the difficulty to make things more manageable. And yes, I believe usually fighter-bombers were escorted by fighters without bombs throughout the war, sometimes even the same model of fighter. On the western front at least I've read of a few times when spitfires of one RCAF squadron escorted the spits of another that were equipped with bombs.

Gambit21 Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 Nah - the only flights could respond would be those places by the mission builder. I can already do it, but I have to use a trigger like “bingo bombs” to demonstrate the concept.
Finkeren Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Even when playing on easy+scattered, I find that in my fighter careers, our flight of 4-6 aircraft are met with 10+ opposing fighters nearly every mission. It doesn’t matter which side I fly for. We will generally encounter manageable opposition over the main target area, only to find, that a short while before that point a flight of 6 enemy fighters have taken off and are now heading directly for us. Even if we leave the target area before they arrive, they will change course and keep stalking us all the way back to base. Just to be sure, I have checked in external view and mission after mission the pattern is the same. It would be cool, if that was something that happened every once in a while, but the regularity by which it happens (on easy/scattered no less) just makes it tedious and frustrating. One of the first improvements I hope to see for the career is an option to make encounters with enemy aircraft much more rare and not something that happens in abundance every single mission. 2
InProgress Posted June 5, 2018 Author Posted June 5, 2018 Yep, it's annoying.. career needs lots of work and I hope devs wilp focus on it. There is just too much fighting and you always face overwhelming numbers of enemy, it's something from old campaign, when enemies were just keep coming. The whole mission victory condition should be changed too. When you have task to defend ground units, you win by shooting down 1!! Enemy attacker.. so what that they destroyed every single ground unit. ? if enemy group gets heavy damage they should just give up and fall back, not attack like crazy when everyone dies one by one, even heavily damaged planes keep flying there instead of fall back. What we need it way more commands like in clod. Ask for vector to base, ask for weather conditions, call for help, tell your wingmen, all or specific one to disengage and go home if you see him smoking (tho they should also do it on their own). They should inform you "I ran out of cannon ammo" if you get that info from all your men and you are fighting bombers then it's pointless to attack them with mg only, so you give orders to home. We really need lots of commands to get all important informations and give orders to our men. I know career is fairy new and it will take time, but I hope it won't get abandoned and lots of changes and improvements will come. 2
