Rain Effect Underused

One of the effects I liked more was the new rain effect. I personally think that it was one of the best ever. However, I am a bit disappointed because it is completely underused. For example, I am currently flying a career in BOM. I have flown 100 sorties and not a single rainy day. Shouldn't we have more rainy days in the game so we can enjoy some rain effect? :cray:

Fly bf110, you will get overcast with strongest wind every day and you will be sick if it in no time :P

but weather update would be cool, like thunderstorm and flight is cancelled or getting dynamic weather where rain starts during mission etc.

Similar to InProgress, I started a Moscow campaign Bf110E career and my first three missions were rain filled. Not sure what governs the weather settings or how they relate to the different mission types.

ok. I'll try the Bf110 to see if I get that too. :)

Dynamic weather would the Cornerstone of a sublime sim!!!

I just tried and ... you were right, my first mission was under the rain in my Bf110! :good:

I’ve never seen a drop of rain in my 27th IAP campaign throughout the entire Moscow and Stalingrad periods.   Haven’t seen a Ju-52 either for that matter.

The rain effect shows up when flying though clouds and flying really low above water if you want to see it more.

Isn't weather set according to historical records in the campaigns?

Don't play sp myself.

No it's not, it's a bit weird, I don't think you get rain when playing fighters at all, or maybe it's super rare. And when you play as bf110 in moscow, you get tons of rain. So nothing is really historical there. If it would be possible to know which day was rainy then it would be really cool to make it scripted and historical.

For now it's a bit annoying, spam of rain when playing 110, no rain at all when playing as fighters.

In the main QMB the only way to get rain is by selecting the overcast cloud setting.

Would like to be able to hear the rain pinging off the canopy when starting from parked. Maybe I need to look at my audio settings, not touched them for an age.

I am hoping to see something with snow  like sides of conopy frozen or something like this.

I would like to see some rainy days with fighter career as well. Variety is the key. Routine this boredom. :)

No, the rain noise has the sound of the drops landing on the ground.  Not the drumming sound of them landing on an aircraft’s stressed skin.  Similar to the way the machine guns include the sound of the links landing on concrete.  Aircraft not included. ;)

That`s weird. In my p40 Career never seen rain either. It was beginning to bug me. It`s nice to have nice weather all the time, but life isn`t like that (at least not in Europe). To have to change aircraft to see rain isn`t logical. Must be something up with the coding.

The best rain effect I could find is in a Spitfire Mk IXe at low level on the Kuban map with max clouds, taking off with precipitations and keeping my plane very low nearly tree top.

Fantastic… effect of speed, rain and sound combine in the impression of reality.:salute:

I've endured at least 50 BOM missions, probably many more and it hasn't rained once!

That's one of my two complaints actually, it's too damn 'samey', every day is the same with the exception of the occasional cloud.

My other complaint is one hour missions across the length of the map escorting He 111 bombers at 300kph. Even with accelerated time it gets tedious although I have just downed five Mig-3 fighters during the last mission so at least that was profitable!

Unfortunatly you all do realize that if they change this then the next thread will be 'It rains too much in il2 - Bring back the sun!'

It already does for 110. I think the best solution would be scripting it and making rain when it was raining (if there are data to provide that information) as an new option, where you have frontline density and other stuff, "weather -> historical -> random". But random does not mean a chance to rain entire week, it could be roll of a dice, roll 4, 4 rainy days in a month etc.

If they keep working on the career mode it could definitely end up being something special. I enjoy it already quite a bit in VR. Been loving the game since I've jumped back into it.

The Career Mode is indeed fantastic and will only get even better as time goes on.

Can't say I have really seen much in the way of precipitation so far in the Kuban Spit careers I have been flying, usually just some drops when flying through the clouds.

What if it rained for a week straight at some point in the real thing?

I wondered if the Devs had made the weather the way it is because of complaints. It reminds me of some my favourite racing games suddenly losing all bad weather on a sequel which puzzled me cos I love the challenges of bad weather.... Then I realised. People complained it away.

I would much prefer dynamic weather. I do not like scripted events, you can tell them a mile away and it kills the dynamism of a Career Campaign. To be honest i`m not so sure why people are so into `scripted`.

I look at this way, in the real thing nobody could tell or direct what the weather was going to be until the weather developed. It was never set. The outcome is always dynamic. If it rained every day because that`s the way the weather culminated,  I`d happily deal with it because it`d be realistic. But I don`t like scripted since it feels like the Devs hands are in there forcing things.

Also I never complained about rainy weather.

It's underused and overused at the same time.

From one hand there is not enough missions with rain.

On the other hand rain effect when flying through cloud or low over the water is a little bit exaggerated?

Yes it's a bit "too much" (still it's great to have it). Drops are too large and slide slowly.

Perhaps some kind of rain % slider a la Eurotruck Simulator 2?

Mind you, I set it to rain 50% of the time in ET2, then had to dial it back due to extreme depression brought on by the continual, grim, unremitting, horizontal rain type 17.

(I only play ET2 so I can pretend I'm shipping up crated up warbirds around the place....)

Then you would have raid for a week. This is why i said about option to have it scripted for people who like historical stuff and random for people like you. Best option to please everyone.

Excellent idea! :good:

The dice can change according to the season, for example winter 1,2,3 rain, summer 6, etc Don't mind the examples, they are just to get the idea ...

That`s not a bad idea...

Er... I also run that game sometimes myself. A strangely enjoyable `game`.
