You dont need to search very hard, and there are tons os similar videos showing the laser guided accuraccy of the gunners.

They'll shoot right through another Pe-2 or escort if you can get them lined up right approaching a formation.  Plenty of room for improvement.  Than the poor schmuck get kicked from the server for friendly fire.

No doubt - but a German AI gunner set to 'ace' will do the same thing.

Was practicing against AI bombers in a Spit IX and decided on convergence at 500m. The gunners opened fire at me 700 - 600m but inaccurately and I was able to deliver pretty heavy blows (dead or disabled) without encountering any problem. I'll try this against Pe-2s and see what happens.

 

Bu the 'firing while spinning' things is a bit silly.

While I do disagree that gunners (on both sides) are way too good at shooting while spinning etc.,   I do remember reading a pilots autobiography where he mentioned killing a German bomber that went into a death spiral then when he followed it down to watch it crash the rear gunner shot out his engine.   You would think the gunners would be more  concerned about getting out but it seems that sometimes they just accept they are not going to escape and do their best to take you with them.   It may have been in 'Ten Little Fighter Boys'.

I say again,  I am not saying that AI gunners firing from impossible angles under high G is reasonable.  I just offer that story up as a curio ?

 

One thing that could probably be done fairly easily is to say 'If a bomber is mortally damaged then the crew abandon their guns and try to bail.'    The game certainly makes a decision quite early on that the plane is 'Dead'  as evidenced by the number of times it gets it wrong and you RTB with a 'Dead' plane ?     It looks like there is some sort of built in delay when crew bail out as there is often a 5 second delay between losing all engines or a  a wing etc and the first crew member jumping but the problem seems to be that the game decides if the gunner has not actually got out the hatch then he is still at his station shooting back.  Of course this fix contradicts my opening story but never mind ?   A block on shooting under heavy G would also be a useful fix though I don't doubt that a determined, and scared, gunner might do his best to shoot even under 5G.

Remembers me of the Bf110 E2 gunner still shooting, however he is just reloading my 20mm guns.

So are you implying that Pe-2 gunner's are part of the jedi order? I guess that explains everything! Can't wait for Princess Organa to appear in my cockpit after the next update as I would certainly let her take control of my yoke and throttle. However, I wouldn't trust her with my 30mm weapon.

No it's not that bad, I guess you can call it mild humour!

However, now that you mention it, I'm starting to see similarities of the Pe-2 to the Millennium Falcon.

Actually it was a fairly low head-on deflection angle and the Tie Fighter overtaking speed appears to be only tens of meters per second ?

Now to the topic, reaction times of Pe-2 gunners are sometimes godlike. However in last few patches while flying on Liberty or TaW I did not experience this issue when attacking the bomber with proper slashing attack. Same with IL2s. The thing is that one must have enough relative speed in good direction where gunners cannot fire. My favourite, most successful, attack pattern is following:

1) position yourself on high 2 o'clock of the bomber

2) turn around and commence the attack with a dive towards the Pe-2

3) as you get closer, start doing tight right hand turn, lead the bomber and start shooting, you should hit both wings like that and if you aim well, you might hit top gunner.

4) escape as fast as possible at the bomber's low 10 o'clock, where it cannot endanger you.

5) ???

6) profit

We still have 109...;)

In the beginning when it was like 1 or 2 hits was enough to down every fighter, I did like it more immersive than now. Its fine now too so no demands here.

 

For some reason I dont find Pe-2 snipers PK me often, but my plane do get hits every time I do attack it. And i usually have to jump or crash land..

True, the 109 didnt change much in that regard, instead of getting set aflame on the first bullet you now lose a wing or the entire tail :lol: 

 

I also dont have problems attacking pe2, it takes time, and it doesnt mean the gunner behaviors are correct, it just means I know how to "game the game"... which is getting old btw.

Did you miss the previous posts, which said that the Junkers Ju88 has rear gunners who are of the same lethality?

One thing I'd like to see more of, although I don't know how much it will affect gunners, is more night-ops on servers. The AAA is definitely affected by night time and it feels nice to run night strikes. With the Po-2 supposedly coming this is doubly important since it will need night time to actually operate.

 

I haven't tested gunners at night as much as AAA so maybe someone can input with the affects there?
