falle96 Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 I'm hoping to record highlights of each of my career flights and put them out there in the style of vintage gun-camera footage. Here is the first! 2 1
falle96 Posted June 2, 2018 Author Posted June 2, 2018 Two sorties later (another bomber escort mission and a ground support mission), we return to Junior Lieutenant Vorobyev for his fourth sortie - a bomber escort mission over the Vyazama/Bryansk pocket. 2 1
Wolfram-Harms Posted June 3, 2018 Posted June 3, 2018 Looks like vintage footage! Do you use a special program for your videos, FW ? 1
falle96 Posted June 3, 2018 Author Posted June 3, 2018 It’s a really strange process, and I’m not sure it’s the most efficient way to go about it, but if it works... What I do is record the gameplay using BoX’s flight recorder, then look over the footage later to find interesting shots. I then record from the flight records using OBS. This makes this weird file, .flv or something like that, so I use OpenSource to export the native capture file into a .mp4 at 1080p. From there, I use a free editing software, I believe it’s called Hitmark Express, to actually do the video making. The actual editing doesn’t take too long. Remove the original audio track of the video clips, add a black and white premade filter, add in the “picture start” frames (someone put that up free on YouTube, so it was a quick download away), add the projector noise (a free .wav. Putting it all together so that it doesn’t sound too jarring takes some time), and then export it into a final .mp4 video file. All in all, making one of these takes anywhere from 2-3 hours.
Wolfram-Harms Posted June 3, 2018 Posted June 3, 2018 Okay, thanks - now I'm .... Is it OBS that makes the special appearance? Otherwise you could use WindowsMovieMaker - that makes the correct file type, once you "write the film" in the desired solution.

I actually didn't look at WMM when I was trying to find programs, which is probably an oversight by me. As for the appearance, that's done through the final editing program, Hitfilm (sorry, I had botched the name during my first post). What ends up happening for my process is that I go through four programs - IL-2 itself, OBS, OpenSource, and finally Hitfilm Express.
Wolfram-Harms Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 Ah, okay. Me, I record from IL-2 Tracks with my NVidia card's own recording tool, and then make a film of that "footage" via Windows Movie Maker. So it seems I am only missing Hitfilm Express, for the "special effects". Thank you, FW! 1

The "vintage" filter is listed under the "premade" section of the effects tab, but you can probably customize it yourself manually to get the desired look. 1
