LeeHarvey Posted May 31, 2018 Posted May 31, 2018 Is anyone working on a template for the new Spitfire? The Spitfire Mk.Vb 4k template by ICDP is amazing, and I can only hope that it is being modified for the new Mk.IX.
ICDP Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 I have asked Jason for access to the MkIX so I can start a 4k template. He is busy right now moving house, so good luck to him with that :) I will get one started when possible. 1 4

Zargos Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 (edited) Im going to start a 4K template for the Mk. IX because I want to make some skins for this aircraft. I've superposed Mk.V & Mk.IX panel lines and rivets ... well there are too much differences to turn the Mk.V into Mk.IX easely. So I will start from scratch. @ICDP : Maybe we can work together on this one. First, I'm going to redraw pannel lines and rivets (that's long but easy), then when Jason gives you the template when can check what is left to do and share the job. Zargos Posted June 3, 2018 Posted June 3, 2018 Hello, Some progress this week-end : - all panel lines finished - riveting in progress As I've said : not difficult but long, very long ! See U when I'll have something new to show you ! 4 3
Zargos Posted June 6, 2018 Posted June 6, 2018 Sorry to keep you waiting guys, I've been both busy quite lazzy these past days, so the template didn't progress very much. At this stage the rivets and panel lines are finished and I've started the basic paint scheme. I'm waiting for Jason to transmit the 2K template to ICDP to work on aircraft parts, shadows and other details. 1
LeeHarvey Posted June 7, 2018 Author Posted June 7, 2018 Thanks for posting the progress update. I'm sure I'm not the only one anxiously waiting to see how great the template is.
Zargos Posted June 7, 2018 Posted June 7, 2018 Hello, Here is a quick view of the current progress on the template : As you can see, I've started the basic paint scheme. In the same time, I try to improve aircraft parts as much as I can. I hope I can work more than I did up to now. Cheers. 2 4

Zargos Posted June 7, 2018 Posted June 7, 2018 Thanks for your comments. By the way, I need some help. I've started to create the 4K the stencils. Luckily some of the IDCP's Spit V excellent stencils can be used for the Mk. IX, but some other need to be created from scratch but I don't have the appropriate font to write them. In addition some stencils of the basic skins are not readable and, as for the P39, I need a "stencil map". Any help would be very apprecizted.
Kirk Posted June 7, 2018 Posted June 7, 2018 Hi Zargos. If you want I can send you by e-mail some pictures and a scan of the stencils in the decal sheet that is part of the Spitfire Mk. IXc kit manufactured by Pacific Coast Models. Of course I'll include a scan of the instructions so you can see where to place the stencils. 3

Zargos Posted June 7, 2018 Posted June 7, 2018 (edited) Evening news ... The basic paint scheme is almost finished. Thanks to Kirk who sent me a valuable material I have finished the stencils of the Spit. IX : And now, I must start to arrange the internal and aircraft parts layers and fix some details on the paint scheme ... and also make the normal map layer which will come with the template. Still a lot of work ... I wish you all the best. Edited June 7, 2018 by Zargos 3
LeeHarvey Posted June 7, 2018 Author Posted June 7, 2018 Dude Zargos, your Spitfire is starting to give me goosebumps. I love it.
Zargos Posted June 11, 2018 Posted June 11, 2018 Hello, This Sunday was sunny so I took the oppurtunity to make a 100 km bicycle ride in the countryside. Of course I didn't work on the template very much. But there are some good news ; the basis of the template are now finished : - rivets and panel lines - aircraft parts layer - complete stencils layer (many tanks to Kirk) - basic paint scheme and RAF markings Now I must create the Normal map that matches with the template. When this is done, I'll not be able to make anything else because the official 2k template is not available, then I cannot get the wireframe layer and some basic weathering. Anyway, I'll upload the template to allow any of you to start some skins. See U soon. 1

Zargos Posted June 11, 2018 Posted June 11, 2018 Normal Map undrer progress : Good night dear simers ! 3 1 2
Zargos Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 I think I have tuned the normal map in the right way : Unless I decide to change some details in the normal map, I'm going to create the alpha layer. And in the same time, I've started the basis of my first skin for this Spitfire Mk.IX : the plane of Commandant René Mouchotte : Actually, the Mouchotte's plane was a Mk IX.c with au round tail. This skin is an horrible FAKE ! See U soon 4 2 1

LeeHarvey Posted June 13, 2018 Author Posted June 13, 2018 (edited) It's beautiful and I'm so glad it's not shiny! It looks fresh from the factory at Castle Bromwich. Edited June 13, 2018 by LeeHarvey
smink1701 Posted June 13, 2018 Posted June 13, 2018 Looks amazing! Looks like it just rolled out of the factory. Are you planning a version with faded paint and some battle wear? Thanks for your hard work!

CCG_Pips Posted June 13, 2018 Posted June 13, 2018 Question importante (pour moi) Zargos .Y aura t'il un calque "aluminium" ? Important question? is there an aluminium layer in the template?
Zargos Posted June 13, 2018 Posted June 13, 2018 (edited) 13 hours ago, CCG_Pips said: Important question? is there an aluminium layer in the template? Well I don't know. The point is that I never tried to make bare metal skins for IL2-BOS and the Spitfire is not the plane I was thinking of for starting. But why not ? Nevertheless, I think that if I ever make a metal layer for the Spit it will be a different template with specific alpha layer and will be released separately. Zargos Posted June 15, 2018 Posted June 15, 2018 Hello, Here are some news of the template and normal map. I'm still working on the template : the more I think I progress, the more I discover small details to correct or improve. But now I think I'm close to the end. It is quite the same for the normal map. I've spent some time to watch carefully close-up historical pictures of the plane to figure out how small and medium rivets and screws appear on real planes. Then I try to work the normal map to get a result as close as possible to the real look. The first thing that any one can see is that small rivets appear almost recessed and rather as small hollows rather than small bumps. On the other and, large rivets and screw at wing roots and on removable plates appear as bumps. I also try to give a little bumpy look to the plane plate and to modulate the "bumpiness" in different location. Here is a quick view (from the game viewer) of the result : I hope you'll enjoy it. As ever, positive criticism and constructive suggestions are vey welcome. Have a nice week-end 2 2 3
