M4 AAA?

Gentleman pilots,

 

See this M4 AAA message coming up often at times, killing people left right and centre. Seems to be mounted on boats and some other ground targets. However, I can't find it with a Google search. What is this weapon?

The M4 AAA is the quadruple mount of water-cooled Maxim machine guns



Here you can see it in game in a truck mount (it also has a fixed mount, i'm not sure about it being in ships)

At low alt it is one of the deadliest AAA batteries when attacking with multiple planes due to how quick it can change target.

Does it reload? Maybe it's deadly but it would take a long while to reload that thing :P

With a firing rate of between 500 and 600 rds/min and those cans holding 1000 rds each that would mean you'd have a firing time of between 1:40 and 2:00 mins.  Reload, I think, would be between 10 and 15 seconds for two guys, one in front changing cans and one guy behind loading leader and charging.   Each can should weigh, my guess, 25 to 27 lbs.  I think War Thunder gives like 7 seconds or less to change out all four cans depending on paid ... umm, rather skill ... level of crew.
