II./JG27_Rich Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 (edited) If the Mediterranean theater comes out in the future two three four years down the road I think I will make a movie blending it into this where I start chasing the P-40s who have thankfully killed Tom Cruise. He's not Stauffenberg in my movie Edited January 16, 2014 by II./JG27_Rich
Trooper117 Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Considering your opening statement on that movie clip says it is the one bit that is 'awesome'... Yes, it is so awesome it has the inevitable 'hollywood' scene where the obligatory truck goes six feet in the air after being hit with machine guns Tom Cruise is not the strutting 6footer von Stauffenberg that's true, but he's still a fine actor in many respects... and anyone who flies a P-51 is ok in my book too, lol!
II./JG27_Rich Posted January 17, 2014 Author Posted January 17, 2014 (edited) One of the best things in this clip is he's not saying one word Who want's to watch a movie about Germans with a hord of English and American actors running around? Probably a mess of people but it seems weird to me. Edited January 17, 2014 by II./JG27_Rich
Rjel Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 I guess it's nice to have native actors playing their respective nationalities but the reality then is having to read subtitles. I think the movie Judgment at Nuremburg struck a nice balance by having Maximilian Schell's character first speaking German then a tight close up on his mouth and then the change to English. It sort of tricks the mind into believing he is still speaking German without resorting to subtitles.
Emgy Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 (edited) Without a star like Tom Cruise in the main role, few in anglosaxia would watch the movie. And that would be a shame because it's a widely forgotten story. I was amazed that a hollywood studio would make such a movie. (With a faction of Germans as the "good guys" in a WWII thriller.) Felt like they didn't disrespect the source material, not that I'm an expert of the story. Thumbs up from this layman and cynic. Edited January 18, 2014 by Calvamos
II./JG27_Rich Posted January 18, 2014 Author Posted January 18, 2014 (edited) I personally don't like Cruise very much (particularly his non movie activities on behalf of a specific organisation) but I really like the movie. I cannot understand how one can call it "agony" particularly if you're interested in history. That's exactly why I called...The Movie... agony Edited January 18, 2014 by II./JG27_Rich
II./JG27_Rich Posted January 18, 2014 Author Posted January 18, 2014 (edited) I remember Germany didn't even want Cruise in the country and Staunfenbergs son said he wanted his father to be left alone and was sure the movie would be "kitsch". = low-brow style of mass-produced art Edited January 18, 2014 by II./JG27_Rich
