I wasn't expecting to like the IX. I was all hyped for the V and then... meh...

I really like the IX though. With all the different modifications it's pretty versatile.

Need some 4k skins for it.

I'm sure there are those already at work on 4k skins. ?

I was pleasantly surprised by the mk Ix, heaps of power and the sound in the cockpit is amazing. The new 60lb rockets are fun and using the Mk Ix against trains is a lot of fun, great work team.

It will definitely make those ground attack Career missions in the Spit more interesting.

Those guns really have power.

I did  a quick mission against the new 109 and outflew it easily then tore it to pieces. That's from a permanent 109 F4 pilot too!

This thing is an absolute machine and no one should lose a standard low altitude dogfight while flying it.

Now we need Hurricanes. And some earlier 109 and Spit variants. And a channel map. Someone should tell TFS to get busy making IL*2 Battle of Britain instead of going on messing with CloD.

The IXe' guns are the best mixed combination so far... .50 mg and Hispano have very similar (and fast) trajectories. Add the gyro sight and the Spit becomes a very dangerous sniper.

it instead just moves to where you want and sticks there.

That's pretty much how real-world pilots describe its behavior. It's a true "pilot's plane."

Are we missing an aerial wire?

RAF Spitfire IXs were fitted with VHF radio sets that didn't need the aerial wire. However, Spitfire IXs in Soviet service were refitted with the older HF TR-9D radio set that did need the wire, along with the triangular anchor point at the back of the mast and an anchor point on top of the rudder (see images).

This plane is ridiculously good. Based on my anecdotal testing, it has just as good if not better turn radius than any Yak.

Fun turning fight in the deck last night with a squadmate. Given its neutral stability, biggest problem is having too much back stick. Handles beautifully in the vertical as well, though outright speed a bit lacking compared to G14.

Simply love it.

Latewar RAF HEF-SAPI shells were extremely deadly and made up most of the belts in a Mk IX too. You are also shooting at somewhat fragile German planes compared to miracle Stalinwood wings of glory...

Funny, yesterday I was just messing around with the G14 a bit. Set myself up alone against 4 Yak-1b. Every single one of them fell after the first burst (that hit them). I was using the standard MG 151 armament.

As it should have. It would be more fair to compare this Spit to a Yak-3 than to any of the 1942-43 Yaks we have.

Strange but true! The late war planes were better than the planes of the beginning of the war. Maybe the airplane constructors become more experienced the more they build planes, they learned from their mistakes. ??:salute:

The Bearcat was better than the Hellcat that was better than the Wildcat that was better than the Buffalo?! Strange or Normal?!

But sometimes more difficult to fly, meaning pilot success  may not have increased with performance improvements (quite apart from the opposition caddishly serving up newer models).

Spit maintains nice handling to the IX but supposedly the V was a nicer aircraft  just as German pilots liked their F4s.

Realy enjoying this one, its heavier than the mark 5 and less manouverble, at least it should be, and i feel this is in the game as well. But i more than makes up for it with a very good climbrate, much more ammunition and the gyro sight. It should do 24-25ms climb at sea level @+18boost 3000rpm. Just love it.
