7.GShAP/Kamm Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 Hello, I am all of a sudden experiencing a major sound issue where from once I launch the game there is no sound at all. The day before this issue occurred everything was normal, I didn't change any sound settings or change any hardware or software. I've checked every audio output on my computer and none of them have the game muted. I restarted my computer after the first time I discovered that I had this problem and I was able to hear the game like normal so I thought the problem was solved, but once I closed the game to then reopen it and play later I again had no sound. I have the game installed on steam and all other steam games work just fine. IL2 BOS is the only game with this issue. I've uninstalled the game and verified the integrity of the games files and I still have the same sound issue. I can stream videos and talk to friends via voice chats just fine as well. To my knowledge the game hasn't been physically muted in my sound mixer and my sound settings in-game have not been tampered with. I just launched the game like usual and discovered this issue. I've restarted my computer many times in hopes that the problem would fix itself but sadly it has not. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You! 7.GShAP/Kamm Posted May 25, 2018 Author Posted May 25, 2018 (edited) I solved the problem. It was the newest version of windows that had messed up the audio for the game. I reverted back to an earlier windows update version and it solved my problem. I turned off windows updates until further windows updates become available. The bad windows update was on May 22nd, 2018. So if you run into this problem revert to before May 22nd, 2018. Edited May 25, 2018 by 7.GShAP/Kamm 1
shambler1966 Posted March 1, 2023 Posted March 1, 2023 I know your post is from five years ago but it's still relevant. The exact same issue you describe, I am currently experiencing. In my futile attempt to find a solution, I've been searching through this forum. Apparently, this is an ongoing issue with IL2. I see post after post describing the same thing. One day sound works, the next it just stops. When a "fix" is identified, they are just random, vague and have little similarities with any other solution identified. Almost as if it just starts working again for the same random unidentified reason it stopped working. I am a relatively new user for IL2 having significantly more expensive with another product. For some reason I have yet to understand, several people I interact with on this other sim suggested IL2. So far, I think it's crap. I am also confused as to the lack of expertise from the player community. In every post I read, these "experts" always suggest just reinstalling the program as their very "first" suggestion. Instead, why not help each other identify real problems with the sim and work with the developers to fix. The benefit is a better product for current users and a better experience for new users who actually might stay and contribute to the game. Instead the crappy sim that can't even keep the sound on gets deleted and eventually your player base is gone. I'm not mad or directing this rant to the original author of this post. I doubt anyone will even read it. But if you did and think I am a person who just left the volume slider on zero. Then my rant is directed to you. 2
FuriousMeow Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 Need system specs to really assist. Dxdiag would help, as well as screenshots of sound settings in Il2GB and the Windows sound settings. The only time I've had a sound output issue was when Windows decided to change my output device from my Soundblaster Z card to the nvidia High Def. Switching back to SB Z and sound was fine.

Instead of just ranting, why not help to identify and solve problems by giving detailed information about what happens as well as relevant information about your system (OS, hardware, drivers, screenshots as suggested by FuriousMeow), before complaining how crappy IL2 supposedly is? There are a gazillion reasons something like this could happen, and only a couple of those are caused or can be solved by IL2. Don't just assume that's the case without any evidence to that effect (if you do have any evidence, please post it). Even assuming it is in fact a bug in IL2 (which at this point I find unlikely), how do you expect the developers to solve it without providing any in-depth info whatsoever?
LVA_Picard Posted March 3, 2023 Posted March 3, 2023 I had same problem , lots of time i had this issue most of the time it appears in the first 10 minutes . My solution to this sound bug was a usb sound card , i used it fore better results buttkicker fore some reason i did not have any errors after it . Lucky side effect ? Anyway i thought it was interesting inough to post it Greets Robin
czech693 Posted March 3, 2023 Posted March 3, 2023 (edited) When this happens I check the Winidows Sounds menu and find that an update has changed the Default Playback (and sometimes the Default Recording) Device. I use Voicemeeter to switch between front and rear speakers, and headset. I usually find that the Default Playback has been changed to a sound card. Edited March 3, 2023 by czech693
TCW_Brzi_Joe Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 (edited) It happened to me, win11. I tried everything without success, even reinstalling game. Then I found somewhere in pc sound settings "reset all per game sound settings to default", and that worked. Edited December 22, 2023 by TCW_Brzi_Joe
