D_Konig Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 Hi guys, I have 2 questions. First, I get random CTD sometimes, cant discern the cause but i dont think its VR related as this still used to happen during regular sessions with trackIR. I would just be flying somewhere and then just... desktop. No error message, nothing. Game just closes abruptly. Not everytime, but it can be annoying especially 45m into a mission and im 3 minutes from home airfield lol Also another question regarding just general piloting. How are my AI squadron mates so much faster than me? With and without bombs they always pull away within a few km of taking off and I can never catch them. Is this just a superpowered AI bug or am i missing something? I keep control of the rudder, adjust elevation with stabilizer/trim wheel, flaps and gears are all up obviously... should I be switching to manual prop pitch and adjusting that? Thanks fellas!
RedKestrel Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 I think we need some more information. What's your rig like? Processor, graphics card, operating system, etc. What are your graphics settings? Is there any consistency at all with when you crash...ie is there a lot of AI activity nearby, or flak? Do you see any stutters, frame rate drops or freezes before this happens? I've never experienced this on Il-2 BoX, but in old Il-2 1946 it would CTD without warning when the game engine got overloaded with too much flak, explosions, and city rendering. Basically the engine said "nope" and shut down without warning. I realize its a different game wtih a different engine and a whole lot of other things, but it could be worth a try. You might try turning down some graphics settings, especially draw distance, and see if that helps. As far as AI outpacing you, I think some AI planes have a very high cruising speed set that can be difficult to reach at continuous engine settings. I have found that I-16s generall cruise at about 330 km/h, so while they may initially pull away from me, its very easy to catch and overshoot them later even at moderate engine settings. On the map, the various waypoints should say what the speed for that leg of the trip is. The speed indicated there is the speed the AI will fly. The AI uses the same FM as we do, unlike in 1946 where it was simplified and they often got a little speed boost from that. But the AI will always fly perfectly coordinated and at perfect engine settings. They can probably ride the edge of engine damage in a way that would be difficult for the player. You may also find they pull away initially, but when they settle in to cruise you can catch up.
D_Konig Posted May 23, 2018 Author Posted May 23, 2018 (edited) Their cruising speed is 450kmh which i cant get anywhere near. 400 is usually where I'm stuck. The rig isnt the problem and its not a graphics setting or core temp problem i went over all of that. Actually if anything I find it crashes when theres nothing happening just going from A to B. Processor is 4.2ghz, gtx 1080, 32gb ram, windows 10. I had the same problem on a gtx 780 when playing normally. Id say it happens 15-20% of the time. Are there crash logs or anything saved anywhere that could have clues ? Id like to go online with a squadron sometime when I feel ive gotten good enough, but this would be very annoying to happen in a MP event. Oops, sorry guys, game crashed lol cya next time. I only know how to fly the german fighters, and 90% of the time its 109s since im still working my way through BoM. Even with 250lb bombs the AI fighters are always off and gone going 450+, I cant stay with them without blowing up my engine. If thats just the game then whatever but if im missing something as far as efficiency goes, I need to figure that out lol Edited May 23, 2018 by D_Konig
sop Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 (edited) Run a dxdiag, it could be anything causing your crashes, and to help you, people will need more info on your system set up Edited May 23, 2018 by sop
