Arkhamuk Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 (edited) Hi guys, I have gone through the tips in the setup sticky matching both the Steam VR settings and the in game settings. I get a rock solid 90fps at altitude but going below a few hundred feet the counter drops to a rock solid 45fps? Im assuming this is the Async bits but i turned that all off in Steam VR. I pressed Left CTRL and numpad 1 in game as suggested but it didnt change anything. I had to trust it did turn off as i saw no screen notification that AWS was off? I would of course expect FPS to drop if the game is having to show me more stuff but the stable rates of 90 then 45 make me suscpect im doing something wrong? Can you give me any advice to solve this or help me understand? Edited May 22, 2018 by Arkhamuk
HunDread Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 Welcome! Yes, that sounds like ASW kicking in. I use Oculus Tray Tool to manage ASW. Ctrl+Num pad never worked for me. In OTT you can set up profiles and assign audio confirmation. Once you hear that when launching IL-2 you can be certain that ASW is not going to kick in. On another note ASW kicking in on a couple of hundred meters may mean you need to dial back the settings a bit or try overclocking CPU. It's personal prefernce though. Some people are happy with 45 FPS all the time. Personally I like to keep it on 90 unless it's absolutely unavoidable to dip below. In huge furballs over demanding scenes it's not possible to keep 90 for me.
dburne Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 Yep if you only see 45 or 90 fps and nothing in between , ASW is on. With the Rift only disable it in the Oculus software. Oculus tray tool is best with a profile as previously mentioned, that is what I have and it works every time. ctrl + numpad 1 can be finicky.
Arkhamuk Posted May 22, 2018 Author Posted May 22, 2018 Geniuses! Thank you, you were spot on! It went away when i turned the occulus tool tray AWS off. I get some obvious frame drops in intense visual areas but it never goes down to 45fps Also a bonus point must go to dburne for using that great word "finicky". Good show!
