That was a nasty crash, sad to see such a beautiful aircraft crash, but it’s better than seeing someone get seriously injured!

There are fewer worse things that I can think of than that "Oh *%^&" moment in an airplane. In all the years that I've flown it only happened to me once. I owned an old 1946 Ercoupe. I was heading for Tamiami airport in Miami, Florida. I could see the airport and suddenly my engine rpm's dropped. And then they went up....and then they dropped. And then I saw that my oil pressure indicator needle dropping. Yeah..."Oh &*^%!"

Someone was watching over me that day. I was high enough that it looked as though I could make the airport. I called the tower and declared an emergency. They gave me straight in clearance. I pulled my power and glided into the airport and rolled off onto the grass. I climbed out of the airplane and popped open the cowling. Oil every where! An oil line had come loose. I had to get towed to the hanger. Luckily no major damage and the plane and me were in one piece.

In a P-51 things happen really fast. This is why only people with a whole lot of flight time can fly these oldwarbirds.
